I got to admit reading Geoff and Ollie,s posts i do agree with a Lot of what Ollie said And Geoff i wasnt here on May 19th I didnt get to hear about everything that went on that day until a week later.I go on record now u havent mentioned anything resembling the word Sorry or apologies in any of your posts for abandoning organising zone 1 day and you have to admit u left the forum on ur abolition.
It is good to have you back allthough i think u took the whole situation wrongly in my view hence the post i made whether u were on forum or not Sorry goes a long way to healing wounds.

Unfortunately, I think it might go both ways on that - has Kev apologised for booking the H&G without Geoff's blessing? To be fair, that specific act was, I would assume, not done in any malice, and given that the H&G has been the Pub O' Choice for events for some time, it was a fair assumption that was made that it would be the same for this event. Of course, I don't know if kev has apologised; I would like to think so, and if not then I think you should.palkanetoijala31 wrote:I got to admit reading Geoff and Ollie,s posts i do agree with a Lot of what Ollie said And Geoff i wasnt here on May 19th I didnt get to hear about everything that went on that day until a week later.I go on record now u havent mentioned anything resembling the word Sorry or apologies in any of your posts for abandoning organising zone 1 day and you have to admit u left the forum on ur abolition.

Personally, I find this forum quite a friendly place to go, and on the occasions where I have met up (my first Challenge incidentally was a Snake), the 'people behind the names' are also friendly. Sometimes moreso in real life than on the forum, something that has happened on other forums where I've met with real people so not unique here.
When I was doing all the publicity stuff for my FNC in February, it was my mum actually who thought of an ideal way of defining the different challenges. She likened it to running, where the 'small challenges' (as she put it) - mainly the R15s, but Zone 1 and some of the other challenges - are sprints, where many people are racing against each other to get the best time. The Full Network Challenge is more of a marathon where (particularly in the case of mine where several teams went out that day) loads of people are doing it - some are doing it to set a record (in fact most people here are like that!), some are doing it just because and some are doing it to say 'Yes, I've done it' (which is where I fall).
This is, thanks to the Internet and the forum, a community. That is why you will find people meeting up about things. As well as here, I am a member of the SABRE forums (the road geeks - I believe Andi went out on a FNC with a couple of them last year sometime as it happens) so when we have a forum meet, we sit around in pubs talking about roads, or going round driving on roads. I am a member of the online Church, St Pixels. When we meet up, we discuss things relating to our churches and our faith. In both cases, there are some in-jokes that only ancient members get (there are some here that I don't get if I'm honest). So why then is it wrong that when a forum dedicated to 'Challenging on the Tube' not have people meeting up for different challenges on the tube network? What else could be talked about here except possible routes etc? Okay, not all routes used are discussed here, but there have been some hints and tips that have been picked up along the way. A couple of the runs that Andi made me do, I would never have considered (and some he said to do I vetoed!). What is wrong with that? To go back to the running analogy, would not a world-class runner (we have some world-class TCers here!) help a newbie out?
I don't mean to say that everything you said, Geoff, is all wrong. Not in the least. I know that sometimes the people here can be a bit 'officious' sometimes, we all can. But as Ollie said, it's in our nature as the geeks we are, and if somebody writes GMT for a time in the summer months (I haven't looked it up either, but I would imagine it's this way around) then, although it is still obvious that the local time is probably meant, you could probably expect people to suggest that you made a mistake. To be fair, I'd imagine you were taking the piss yourself when you said GMT after the time; if you'd have said BST nobody would've batted an eyelid...
Sometimes the banter here can be unwelcoming, and I have (albeit privately) thought that in the past. And there are members here that have contributed to that, presumably (and hopefully) unintentionally. I signed up for another forum a while ago, and I've found it the most unwelcoming forum I've ever been on. I still go there because it's a good source of information, but I don't post anything anymore. The weird thing is that on the outside they appear to be more welcoming to visitors than we do here - I'm not saying we're not welcoming btw - when I signed up, there was no post welcoming the 'new member', just a 'welcome to the board RichieG' when I made my first post. My downfall on the forum was probably a post I made myself to be honest where I made a remark about health and safety, then a while later made a mistake over the word 'reinstate' and got shot down in flames over it. Since then, any posts I have made seem to have been ignored, so I've just left them to it. As I said, I still go there for some info but aside from that not. I have a feeling that the mistake over 'reinstate' would be made into an in-joke and would not have pushed me away from the forum. Are there really cliques here? There are on other places, but I don't think there are here. If anything, we're all one big clique! When I did my first Zone 1 last year, as I did this year, I did it on my own. When I got to the H&G, although I knew people there already from R15s, I was still largely on my own (I'll mention my self-esteem issues in a moment!) and the groups that people were in were the teams that people were in. I never once thought they were cliques. As a friend once said, to join a group of people at a gathering, just stand by them and see what happens.
As somebody who does have issues with self-esteem, I do know how hard it can be to enter a group of people without feeling awkward. Personally, I find it easier online - in fact, I think I kind of dived straight in here when I came - but would imagine that other people find it the other way around, or awkward both ways.
Anyway, I've spent my last 40 minutes at work writing this, and it's time for me to go home now so I might continue later on! Or might not if you're lucky...

I don't really want to trawl over the whole booking of the room affair again, but yes when Geoff E-mailed me to say that I had trod all over his toes amongst other issues he had with Z1 day the first word of my reply was "Sorry"RichieG wrote:Unfortunately, I think it might go both ways on that - has Kev apologised for booking the H&G without Geoff's blessing? The reasons that I made the booking have been explained in other topic threads...
Personally I would like to draw a line under the whole issue and move on...
