Autumnal Attempt

Post by Root »

I fancy having a crack at the full network again this year, and I'm thinking September might be a good time to have a go; it won't be in the middle of summer, so we shouldn't have to worry about buckling rails (famous last words), sitting in the deep level tubes won't be quite so unbearable, yet it still leaves plenty of time for planning and organising.

However, I don't want to do it on my own, and I don't really have an established Tube Challenging partner or team to do it with :|

So I'm just going to throw it out there: if anyone is interested in joining me, let me know. I'm really eager to discuss routes with someone - privately, of course ;) If there is a lot of interest, we could split into teams and compete. Personally I wouldn't want to do it as part of a team larger than three.

I'll be sitting, waiting, wishing...

I'm up for it. I'll only be studying one subject so I'll have a lot of free time. Also I'll be 18 so my mother wont be able to say much to me :P

I would certainly be interested, and being part of a small team would help me get over my current inertia with regards to the challenge.

PM me for a chat if you are interested.
Held some Alternative Challenge records for a long time.
Doesn't any more.

Good stuff, three people declaring interest in this thread and one other through PM, making five in total including myself.

I mentioned in my initial post that I don't particularly want to do it as part of a team larger than three. As fun as it was being with the gang of seven today, it can be a little precarious at times; Kevin nearly got caught short - I mean, out - at Ealing Broadway, for instance.

I think it would be a lot of fun to have two (or more) teams competing on the same day. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that it has ever been done before - Tube Relief wasn't exactly competing, after all. Unless one team wanted to start from somewhere other than Amersham, we would begin the day together, only to then split up, and possibly bump into each other later in the day. If it was all going wrong for one team but not the other, the former could bail out and become support members for the other.

On a related topic, I wonder what would happen if two teams both beat the record on the same day, starting and ending on the same trains? They would both have valid claims to the record, but they did not do it together... interesting.

Depending on the date team; Brown/Starkey/Brabbbins could possibly take you on :?: As long as you don't mind carrying my rucksack again

Looks like you're going to have to hold interviews, Ollie!

I had wondered that. It would certainly be a very interesting situation. I think that both teams should get the record, of course. Given that a team normally contains more than one person anyway and they all share the same record, I don't see much wrong with both teams getting it. Then again, that removes the need for a team to stick together for the duration of an attempt, doesn't it? For example, if Kevin hadn't made it at Ealing Broadway, but had caught us up later, that might have taken place.

I tink I might make an attempt this year now as well, and I might be able to drag a line controller around with me as well. But do we have to bring someone from BBC radio around with us as well?

Yes, that's another stipulation from Guinness, along with having to take a replacement bus service to Aylesbury and Quainton Road, not doing the attempt on the second Tuesday of any month, submitting the registration form six weeks before birth, saying "TM" after every mention of G.W.R. and writing a thousand word essay saying why it's okay to use the Overground to Richmond.

Rant over.
