How did the thread below get here, Tubeguru? I thought that you had to approve memberships before they get to post.

Starkey7,
I won't blame tubeguru, but I do agree it's unfortunate. However, I've got no idea what the content might be, since I wouldn't disgrace myself by even opening a topic like that (same reason I never buy a tabloid paper). It's slightly disappointing to see that it's been viewed 17 times already...
Anyway, I'm sure tubeguru will take corrective action ASAP.

I have no idea how that naughty person got in!
The forum is set to admin-verify so that's an interesting one. Consider it deleted.
Edit: I know how they got in - I had briefly set the forum to "no verify" last night to test something and I forgot to put it back to admin.
The number of spammers registering for accounts is just getting silly now. And I have no way of stopping them without a HUGE ban list of email domans.
I may have to start banning hotmail and gmail accounts from signing up soon as lots of spammers use them. That doesn't mean that anyone who previously signed up with one will be able to log in of course.

If you signed up with a Hotmail or Gmail account in the past you will still be able to log in.jonny wrote:Can you just clarify that you meant that? You didn't phrase it as if you did..That doesn't mean that anyone who previously signed up with one will be able to log in of course.
But anyone trying to register with one from when I ban them will not be able to sign up.

True. With any problem you have to really think of the possible solutions and the effects they could have, whether they help or hinder the situation (like when genuine people try to sign up).
One suggestion is that you could give people a 'trial period', say 30 days, to proove that they are genuine. Obviously dont use 30 days because I have used 30 here and people would use that as a guide.
I know if people wanted to spam an account, then they would get a free email account because its simple and easy, but if genuine people want to sign up, if Hotmail or Gmail is banned, then they would have to pay for some other email software (like @blueyonder.net or @ntlworld.com or something). So yeah if you do ban these accounts, it would be a bit harder for genuine people to sign up..unless there is another solution

I can usually tell the genuine ones - they have "proper" names and don't make the mistake of trying to appear genuine by filling in every bloody field with "manager" or "sex".
