Tube strike action

Post by Going Underground »

I am sure most of you would have seen the news and for those that haven't the link is below.....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/6960696.stm

This is going to cause absolute mayhem to the service so I would advise against any challenges on these dates......

Which is a shame as I had planned a "Back to School - end of term Challenge day" for Tuesday 4th Sept....... :(

Oh well will have to wait until October half term now..........

My drive into work this morning wasn't too bad considering the strike action. I think quite a lot of people have just decided to take a few extra days leave or throw sickies instead of battling to work.
It will be interesting to see what happens next week if the strike continues. I say damn the RMT they have no thought for Tubechallengers not forgetting the handful of people who use the network to get to work :)

just wondering if anyone has any opinions on this strike and the supposed reasons behind it?

i know without actually being metronet staff it's difficult to know exactly what the disagreement is, but from what's been reported i have to say that pre-emptive action like this is pretty toys-out-of-the-pram-ish. if world leaders went throwing fits of aggression like this every time they think someone might do something at some point in the future.....oh hang on

Things are looking a little better this morning, only 5 out of 12 lines are suspended.

I don't mind the strike action because all commuters do is moan about the tube saying how crap it is, but with out it the city grinds to a halt. On the other hand London is losing 50 million a day because of the strike

I DO mind the strike because once again RMT and their moronic chief are trying to bully their way into a better deal without a thought for the people they are inconveniencing.

Commuters only moan about the tube because they are selfish and can't see the bigger picture. "Oooh, my train was 10 minutes late this morning. My life is ruined. Boo hoo."

And when reasons are given for the state of the tube they see them as excuses and start making jokes about "wrong sort of leaves" and the such. (And there IS such a thing as wrong sort of leaves, as anyone who knows anything about Glop and RHTT's will know, but I'm straying into National Rail territory now).

It's just selfishness from everyone involved. If commuters don't like it then maybe they could get off their fat arses and ride a bike to work and maybe they won't have heart attacks from the stress of it all when they're 45.

Here endeth the rant.

I agree with Neils rant. I think there are too many people out there who are more than happy to knock the Underground. I think London is lucky to have such a fantastic transport infrastructure and most of the time gets you from A to B without too much hassle. Most foreign travellers I meet are really impressed with the service and how easy it is to get around.

I would have thought that annoying huge numbers of Londoners who pay to use the system, and therefore have to be retained as customers in order to pay their wages would be a rather bad way to get their point across.

(whatever their point may be - from what I can understand they're annoyed that the company they work for has gone bust, yet their wages are still being paid, and will continue to be paid, without question from TFL -- I ask again, what exactly are they complaining about?)
