Stag tube challenge
I am making an honest women of Mrs editorsfoot in the summer, and my best man is attempting to organise some kind of stag do. Anyone care to suggest any tube related activities that could be thrown into the mixer. I think a tunnel vision type challenge might be a little out of the question though!

I hope you will still be allowed out to play
Well the ones that spring to mind are the Circle Line pub crawl, but I have always fancied the alphabet drinking challenge myself..
Once a date has been confirmed please let me know as I would love to attend and we can discuss further...

Wasn't there a discussion of having a Circle Line party? Basically squatting a car on a Circle train, play music, have fun (whatever that involves) without worrying about the train ever reaching its end station...

For various reasons that relate to a spare time activity getting arrested is sadly out of the question, although I think it might be inevitabletubeguru wrote:I've already been to one of those - it was in 2005 and the police stopped it at Sloane Square, causing huge delays to the Circle and District lines.
What about a treasure hunt?

YES, with small green envelopes taped to buffers, DMIs and back of vending machines across the system? Sounds awfully familiar - and slightly arrest-prone as well!editorsfoot wrote:What about a treasure hunt?

Well, clearly we have to assume Robertson used Morden as starting point in his March 2000 attempt on which the book is based. I agree it's not a good starting point for a record attempt, but for a simple all stations in one day - why not, it's at least 16 minutes earlier than an Amersham start...
I also disagree on Keith's writing abilities. I found it, perhaps not very literary but nevertheless, quite well written. Agreed, it lacks severely in realism in certain aspects - but it is fiction!
BTW What would be the best starting point if the goal is to maximise the chances of just making it within one service day (without any record time ambition)?
My bet would be a Heathrow Terminal 4 start at 05:04 or possibly a Hammersmith start at 04:40, but I'm unsure it's worth it...

What I find totally unbelieveable is that he managed to do it all in one day, including finding all the clues with no plan.
Did the author actually try it himself? My golden rule is that you should never write a book about something you have never tried, or have no experience in.
Am I being too pedantic?

Yes, I think you are a bit pedantic... However, the timing aspect is indeed intriguing. I think the book is detailed enough to reconstruct most of the time line - one day I'll go back and work it out properly, to see if it adds up. I will ignore the detail that he actually misses Chiswick Park as well as MC.
As for no planning - I couldn't agree more. Andy's ignorance of the Upminster - Fenchurch Street trains as well as some other train connection also seems terribly implausible - but what do a Swede like myself know?
BTW How can you possibly get lost between Kenton and Northwick Park? Especially if you have lived there...
Still a good read though.

I'm sure tubegure will donate his copy... No, seriously, it's been out of print for a while. I bought it used (very good condition though) on amazon.co.uk a while back after first having read it 2 years ago in Swedish translation.
