Apologies in advance for starting this thread.
Neil was warned about my Eurovision passion, and Going Underground tried to get me banned... :shock:

This years contest has the usual eclectic mix of songs and styles, ranging from techo to opera, latino to R&B, and Switzerland has a song about vampires. All in all a real mixed bag this year.

The UK has several well know acts lined up to represent us in Helsinki including, former Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins, Brian Harvey (E17), Liz McClarnon (Atomic Kitten), Big Brovaz, and 90's pop sensation Scooch. The final contestant for UK is the unknown French artist Cyndi, she has a strong ballad which might just win.

I heard Justin Hawkins talking about this band on the Radio and he thought they could do well if selected. I reckon if selected this could be in the top ten but beyond that who knows? I havent picked the winner in many years now. Sweden's selection process has gone on for months and is completely different to any other country this year. In the UK we only get one final with 6 songs to choose from.
One day I shall return!

Yes I will be tuning in, mainly because Saturday night telly is pants anyway :roll:

I did have a nice little touch in 2004 when I backed Ruslana from Ukraine with the classic "wild dances" Although I didn't get on at the original 33/1 it was still a decent bet at 5/1....

I wonder if anyone else remembers Ruslana :D :wink:

Wasn't there a report a few months back that Morrissey was interested in putting in a bid for the UK entry? Bah, that would have been great. When will the UK powers-that-be realise that it's the quirky original stuff that wins, not the euro-cheese?

I voted that it should be banned.

Nothing but rubbishy music when I watch it. I'd rather be bashing A-stock (which I hate anyway)...

Tubeguru's sentiments about the Eurovision song contest surprised me, because I thought that he always pretended to be unenthusiastic about everything.

Some (not I) would say that doing a zone 1 challenge makes one a geek...
