Where is the most out of date tube map?

Post by editorsfoot »

I had to travel to Arsenal station earlier this week, and noticed that the Aldwych branch was marked on a map, covered up with tape and dust.

Any offers on any older maps or signs showing out of date stations.

I think there's one somewhere with the entire Ongar branch on it (including Blake Hall) albeit covered up with a metal plate!

I think it's at White City where that sign is. I remember seeing a photograph somewhere which mentioned the covering.

I actually had a picture of a similar map at Mile End:

although this is after the closure of Blake Hall. I'm off to the international footy at QPR on Tuesday night with Mrs Editorsfoot so I will have a look out at White City

Many maps still mark interchanges with the H&C as interchanges with the Metropolitan

Damn, I was at Arsenal station last night and didn't see that!!!

At Oakwood though, they still have the Aldwych branch on the map, there isn't even an attempt to cover it up.... I wonder how many confused tourists have tried to go there!

It was located in the one of the tunnels between the two platforms at the northern end of the platforms.

I had heard rumours of a map still showing the East London Line as the East London Line section, and I was wondering if there were some crude attempts to add Heathrow to maps on the Piccadilly.

If you go to Croxley and the southbound platform, the current tube map has underneath it what appears to be the old 1960 map - the nasty angular one designed immediately after Harry Beck's services had been dispensed with.

The bottom right corner is showing.

Or it was a year or so ago.

I just come back from a trip to London with the college and I was at Earl's Court Station on the Piccadilly Line and I seen a map showing the Aldwych branch as still open (albiet peak times only). I will upload the picture tomorrow since I'm shattered after being on the Underground all day! :)

I remember there was someone who did tuberelief that worked on Earl's Court station (I think his name was Alan) -- I spotted that sign and he said that whenever they send an updated sign out they always include Aldwych. Each time they have to cover it up with a board and they can't be bothered any more to keep doing it. IIRC anyway.

Oakwood is the one I took a photo of somewhere I think...The oldest one I know of there.

Well I didn't make it to White City last night, getting off at Shepherds Bush instead, then asking a copper outside the ground who sounded shocked when I asked where White City was, and then told me there weren't any tube stations in that part of London!

Anyway at Shepherds Bush the central line map has taped off the old Ongar branch, but not the names of the station. Mrs editorsfoot was too busy celebrating Denmarks win to let me stop and take a picture though. :(

If memory serves, until relatively recently there was a map at the bottom of the stairs between the Piccadilly and Victoria Lines at King's Cross St. Pancras that showed a Northern Line interchange at Highbury & Islington!

Cheers,

Barry

Sorry for the bump but I went to Shepherds Bush this morning with my camera only to find that now the station names were taped over as well. Has someone been reading this forum then? Fortunately at Hangar Lane I found a map still showing the line and stations!
