the absolute f***ers

Post by hannah b »

Guys,

I've lost my job.

I've been bed-ridden with a stomach bug (horrid one... won't detail), cough and cold for 3 days, and I just called up my boss to ask for my hours next week and he said "You don't have a job here any more".
What is wrong with the world? Can't a person be sick?

Not only has it been physically impossible for me to work, is it against Health and Safety for me to be working with food with the illness I have/had, and it is illegal to sack someone when they can provide a docters note.

The absolute fuckers.

If anyone knows of a job working with decent, honest people, where:

a) I wouldn't get shouted down for writing BFast instead BKT (= breakfast) on the first food order I take
b) where taking 15 mins to eat lunch is not TOO LONG
c) where people actually give a shit about their employees and want to make the most of them as an individual instead of taking the most out of them as a ******* android
d) my employers do not accuse me of taking drugs before a shift
e) I can smile and mean it

*OR*

Know of someone that will pay my rent for me, just for being me (this is preferable)

*Phew* Feel a bit better for that. Swearing works.

Hx

p.s. I really do need a job! I can do most things! And do them well at that.

I'm sure that this is no comfort at the moment, but I have been made redundant more times than I care to remember, and things always work out much better afterwards.

Plus, it sounds as if you are too good for them anyway.

Hannah,

You have been wrongfully dismissed (distinct from Unfair dismissal).

You can bring an action via an employment tribunal (or civil court if you desire) if you want to.

There is a lot of information on the net which is a good starting place.

Do some research - it might help to fill your funding gap.

Hannah - really really sorry to hear about this. This sucks, and although I know nothing of employment law, it does seem you may have a case.
As for your five points, not sure if you know I work for my church? Although I'll be leaving at the end of the summer, they certainly tick most of the above. There are good employers out there, I promise.

Thanks guys.

Moley:
I could take it to a tribunal, but the knowing lot they are won't pay through the books til youve worked their atleast a month. So I was cash in hand. Hurrumph.
Sounds a bit wishy washy, but I think they pay their punishment in being the horrid people they are. And the custom they'll lose through my absence!

TPFKAR:
Work for the church? Doing what?
I'm working 10 hours a week for a church-run gallery-cafe and they are soo lovely. Unfortunately they have no extra work and £50 doesnt even pay the rent! So tell me more!

Going Underground:
What exactly do you do? Forwarding what? Office stuff is it? I quite like the idea of an office job right now!

Tube Guru:
Sounds good, but I'm reading Tunnel Visions at the mo, a philosophical biography of a bloke who was an SA, and it sounds a bit depressing!

Hx

p.s. was on tv today! London tonight yeh!
