Wikipedia reports that today "was" the last day of full front-line service.

Quite. But I'm willing to believe it. It's a Friday, after all.

Whatever date it is, R.I.P. A-Stock.

Didn't ride in any yesterday on my challenge, but saw at least two different A stock trains in service then.

Further investigation suggests that Friday was last scheduled use of A Stock. Last 10 to remain available until end of Olympic games.

Pity they didn't really publicise it, unless they're going to schedule a 'definitive' last train after the Olympics.

Saturday 29th September is the official last train tour so I suspect A stock will still be making the odd appearance for the next couple of months.

The name "CF Booths" strikes fear into the heart of any train enthusiast. They are the scrapyard responsible for the disposal of a large number of the locomotive fleet of this country, and now they are getting rid of the majority of the A-Stock.

Here are a few shots of what happens when a train becomes surplus to requirements.

I'm certainly intrigued about the comments on the post about a few cars of 1967 stock being marked up as 'not to be scrapped'. Seeing as there's already a car preserved at Acton, one wonders what is to become of them.

This IS NOT true about Friday 29th as I went on one today whilst practising my Preston Road double-backs.

You need to practice your Preston Road double backs why? How much practice does it take to get off a train, cross about 6 paces across a platform and get the next train out?
