So we now officially have three Finns on the Forum

Old Finn (Ollie), Flying Finn (Andi) and Wannabe Finn (James). Anyone else wishing to claim Finnish nationality?

Why am I Old Finn? I am younger than Andi (and I'm not sure about James)

You are Old Finn because you have been on here longest of all the Finn's, so I guess you could be something else like First Finn or Original Finn. Anyhow we are no completely off topic of have we reached a new threshold. Judging by the attempt yesterday we have.

Actually you had around 89% Good Service - which is rather bad.

The average for July-October this year has been around 94% Good Service.

Then again Bouncingtigger had over 98% :!: Good Service.

On our most recent, near successful, attempt we had just under 98% Good Service.

If half of the most recent attempts are legit, we could be looking at a time of 17 hours flat before long. Not sure what effect the extended Circle Line service (starts 13/12/09) will have on overall times, but it could probably shave a couple of minutes off the Hammersmith-Paddington route.

Looking at the previous records on Wikipedia, the best time ever seems to be the 17:35 set in 1981. Bearing in mind they had to visit Ongar, Aldwych, Watford Junction and the East London Line (but not Heathrow T4/5 or JLE) I think that is equivalent to about 16:40 on the current network.

I know what you're getting at but it's impossible to say unless you know how many active trains were on the system then (I suspect fewer).

Was this a category "A" or "B" attempt?

If it was a no-car attempt then I'm with Greatkingrat; it's an exceptionally good time.

I remember that, some kid in his teens did it. I remember seeing the newspaper article about him.

Maybe we should have a separate non-GWR-sanctioned "record" for the use of private transport ...

Oh no, someone close this can of worms quick!
