So, these OSIs....... Am I right in thinking that if you touch back in at the second station within the alloted time then the journey is continuous?

Therefore a trip from, say Finsbury Park to Woodofrd via, Walthamstow, Walthamstow QR, Leytonstone HR and Leytonstone would be 1 journey, with an applied maximum journey time?


If this is the case, a touch out and back in at Woodford wont help, as Woodford-Woodford is listed as an allowed OSI with a 10 minute timer. It would consider it the same journey.

I'm not sure how clever the barriers are as that OSI is from one side of the station to the other for accessibility reasons

Hi James, Thanks for your feedback - we've now removed this requirement in response to previous feedback, so the latest version of the rules does not require the use of an Oyster travelcard. I will re-send the Guidelines to be sure that you have the latest version. All the best Corrinne

why is it that Guinness have all of a sudden insisted that people use oyster cards for this record why are paper travelcards no longer acceptable I don't live in London and think this is another blatant case of Guinness world records being stupid and having to touch in and out in a 2 hour period this is completely wrong as well. I wish an answer on this all my previous records were done on travelcards and there has been no problem with verifying them. yours not very happy andy james downtonroad@aol.com

The problem is you will probably exceed the maximum journey time and end up with two unresolved journeys.

e.g on Ickenham To West Ruislip, surely it will show that you touched out of one, and touched in the other - listed as two journeys but charged as one. no?

If it's a legitimate OSI then it does not count as a break of journey when calculating the maximum journey time.

i sent them an email a few days ago the current oyster situation i thought it best in order for me to know what was happening seeing as im not a techno buff osi oyster card history WTF!

and the email i sent in 2014 is basically of copy of the same email (with swear words added after found was in book) i sent in 2010,11,12,13 why was the record not being published in the guinness book of records in print! i did mention the fact that i not longer held the record and basically said to them u print it i would be asking questions why they didnt make yourself wait for at least one year after you broke. which they did of course in first year possible they did that they printed it after making me wait for over 6 years .

i should point that that the 6 of us should of been in the book as well apparently we missed the deadline by 10 days to print but GUINNESS procastination of points that we had already proven in our original evidence that took two months to resolve and so in the book goes the wrong persons name i have brought up and guess what i bet i never get in the book ever another point that i dont particular like guinness if you have a look at the 4 times i have broken the record it has taken longer to get my evidence apart from sam funnily enough than anybody else past or present or perhaps future.

As I was reading through this thread, I thought we should do a protest about it... then I read Andi's email and reply. Fantastic. Fabulous. I've run out of superlatives...

When I did the FNC as part of FART 2013 my paper ticket failed in the latter stages, and I don't think I would have been able to do a tap-in and out to avoid the time-outs.

Without wishing to divulge too much information in the route we took (so I've mixed these up), these are the only places I could have done it after my ticket broke down:

Earl's Court;
Could have done at Harrow Weald & Richmond in hindsight because the train was held in the platform for a while but obviously didn't because I didn't know that at the time (if that makes any sense);
West Ham (but might have timed out before then);
Turnham Green (x2).

Okay, I guess panic's over - but why was it even considered? Even a cursory knowledge of the network reveals how stupid the requirement would be. At somewhere like Woodford it might only take ten seconds (which could still cost a train) but at other stations it could take over a minute and screw up a perfectly legit route.

Sure - with some routes it might not make a difference, but it's not right if a rule can invalidate a perfectly good route.

Yes, I thought it was a bit odd that you didn't get in the book for New York ... but Guinness again are a law unto themself here! The last people to get in before me was Hakan, right? back in 2006/7, so it may not appear in the book again for several more years again, who knows?

regards processing time - i'm assuming that you never paid for Fast Track processing, which we did .. which the new guys with the new record time did, and I know Marc Gawley did. if you want Guinness to process it quickly, you have to give them a few £££ ! (which, yes.. some would argue is unfair)

you would presume correct i probably guessed that was the case anyway i presume it is quite expensive? never mind and i expect the new record holders did as well!.

In regards to anybody beating this time i say it is still well possible ok its made it a lot harder especially as i cant use my 16h 14m route anymore . interesting to note that they are 3 attempts going on in the next 7 days.

Yep while your asking tell them we think MHE and Ken Olly are stupid as well. Joking aside. We should start planning for using oyster as its well known that TFL want rid of paper tickets and I expect it will happen.
