i used farringdon - chancery lane in both 2004 and 2005. it can be useful but it's also quite efficient just to do the central line as one.

also, you really do have to run it, and it's 4-5 minutes. which can add stress to the fast pace of the zone 1 challenge. so i tend to avoid it now.

Yes, it's a bit of a slog. The only real problem is getting lost in various markets and other things, which can be alleviated by practising beforehand. The run from station entrance to station entrace was only about three minutes, if I remember rightly.

I may run faster than the Circle line, but that's not saying much. Besides, I travelled light enough that I didn't need a bag, which was a great help!

I agree with Starkey. It's around 640 meters (0.4 miles) only (sloppily measured with Google Earth). Most able younger (than me) people would easily do it in 3 minutes. It corresponds to running the mile in 7.5 minutes which is considerably slower than a "dream mile" of 4 minutes - and even that would hardly qualify for the olympics!

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

I don't remember my time from the Unofficial Zone 1 day, can someone please remind me of it? I know it wasn't great, but still...

Yeah, true. I know my route could have been a good half an hour quicker than it was though. I'm not going to complain about how long I had to wait for certain trains, but I will complain about sitting in Hyde Park Corner for 5 minutes for no apparent reason!

Basically, I got to the half-way point at 1 hour, 23 minutes - about half of the current record - but by the three-quarter point I was already fifteen minutes down, and then it got worse. A bad day.
