Did Lordi deserve to win Eurovision?
With enough pyrotechnics to convince most viewers that it was 5th November, Lordi stormed to victory on Saturday night. The usual raft of Baltic / Balkan & Scandi block voting ensured that plucky Daz Sampson could only register 19th place for the UK. So did the Finns deserve their win or has Eurovision gone too far. (or does anyone care?)

finland did deserve to win, on the grounds that their song was imo a bloody great song, they were a good band, and their music was representative of the country. finland is the place to be for power metal, exactly like that, it was superb.
daz sampson was, i suppose, representative of the UK and i'm pretty ashamed of that to be honest!

Hey guys - this is probably a good opportunity to mention that I have dual British and Finnish nationality...
I thought either the UK or Finland had a good chance of winning, but I had a niggling feeling the rest of Europe would see Daz Sampson as a slightly strange man with paedophilic tendencies. Finland, on the other hand, had a simple, hard-hitting, radically different song that appealed to the rebellious and the vagrant in every country, and surely a lot of people who were simply bored of the pop rubbish that is churned out year after year.
I've got to say though, I loved Lithuania's entry!
Finland, technically, is not a Baltic country, not a Balkan country and not a Scandinavian country. It is classified as Nordic country - Hakan and I had this conversation last week!

Well I was very pleased for Finland to get their first win, even if the song is not my cup of tea (or glass of ouzo). I agree that the Lituanian entry was a good one and can't understand why it got booed, some people just take this contest too seriously and surely it should all be a bit of fun!
Thanks for the clarification on Finland's status as a Nordic state. I guess my question is what does the UK need to do to win? Perhaps we should enter the Darkness or have songs from England, Scotland, Wales, NI, Isle of Man etc... so we can all vote for each other?

You seriously think we'd vote for each other? I'm sure Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Northern Island would give each other lots of points, but most people in those countries seem not to like the English! Most of our points yesterday came from Ireland, and if we were split up into sub-countries England would probably receive very few votes.
I can't wait to see what Finland follow up with next year o_O.

I still reckon we should try to split the UK into 4 or 5 countries. After all Ireland was the only country to give us a big score of 8 points. If this fails then we need to split into counties. The Wurzels could represent Cornwall and would no doubt get douze point from Devon & Somerset at the very least.
