Talking of such taboo words, I remember a maths class once at school, where I was larking about, and called a fellow classmate a twat. The teacher, who could be quite strict but still had a sense of humour about her, said "you wouldn't call him that if you knew what it meant" - unaware of the exact definition of a twat at the time, someone hinted what it meant, to which I responded "ok, I'll call him a c*** then".
