The mathematician Paul Erdos had 511 different collaborators during his lifetime. As a joke, people started giving other eminent mathematicians "Erdos numbers" equal to the number of collaborative links between them and Erdos. The same idea spawned the game "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon".

5:15 opens side 3 of The Who's album, Quadrophenia.

It refers to (rather aptly for this forum) the train from London to Brighton ("Out of my brain on the 5:15/out of my brain on the train") and involves the main character in the rock opera reflecting disjointedly due to the amount of narcotics consumed.
Holder of the slowest recorded 274 attempt: 4 months, 1 day, 9 hours, 17 minutes, 32 seconds.

OK, so here we go AGAIN!

I have updated the rules in the first post, but there is no provision for challenges or what to do in the case of silly facts about numbers. I am trusting you all to be sensible with the number facts.

If the thread descends into chaos again, I will simply ignore it and let you sort it out yourselves. Just saying.

The last valid number was 515.

(Thanks, Tubeguru!)

518 = 5^1 + 1^2 + 8^3 (so it's the sum of consecutive powers of its digits).

Not a pretty sight!

520 is an abbreviation for "I Love You" in net and SMS use in the Chinese-speaking world. The Chinese words for "5", "2" and "0" sound similar to the words for "I", "love" and "you".

The number 521 bus has been known as the "cattle truck" because most of the space inside is standing room, with very few seats. It runs from London Bridge to Waterloo via Waterloo Bridge and London Bridge, and eastbound uses the Strand Underpass.
