The record

Post by Root »

Okay, I've heard both sides, haven't been able to contact Guinness... can anyone give me a straight answer to this:

Will we or won't we still have to visit Shoreditch after it closes next month?

You see, I'm planning an 'event' for next month and need to know whether I'm going to have to fuss around with replacement bus services or just skip it completely.

Unfortunately there's no way I can do an attempt before June the 9th, I would have liked to have done so.

Incidentally, what is the email address/phone number for record-related enquiries to Guinness? Their contacts page yields nothing. There's quite a few things I'd like to ask them.

How can you visit it if it closes?

Break in?

You don't actually go inside the T4 station building when you use the LUL bus though...

Yes, but H4 is a TEMPORARY closure.

Shoreditch is going for good.

I'm planning an attempt for post-Shoreditch, Ollie. Let's go head-to-head...

I won't be visiting Shoreditch.

Only thing with doing it post-Shoreditch, is that there's no proper benchmark to compare it with. There is if you do it pre-Shoreditch closure. But obviously Shoreditch will close, and a new record must be created.

I would assume that Guinness will - eventually - consider it a new config, but since it's a proper subset of the old config (ie there are no added stations), they will only recognise times beating the old record of 18h35m43s...

BTW I have the question about double Paddingtons and double Edgware Roads submitted to GWR, but no response yet (after 5 weeks).

They ought to get their arses in gear and answer some questions. They could cut through the questions quickly if they put their minds to it instead of making paper aeroplanes, or whatever it is they do.

Whether it's a whole new GWR or just an amendment to the old, someone* has got to make or break the record.

To be honest, I don't think Guinness really care about records like this any more. They are interested in selling as many copies of their book as possible and this record isn't going to do that. Has it even been included in the book in recent years? I wouldn't be suprised if in a couple of years they say that they will no longer be keeping records of tube challenge attempts.

GWR Take ages to respond Its taken them 7 weeks to notify me of the record time to beat, even though I have filled in all the paperwork they require just to say you officially want to try and break the record.

On the Shoreditch closure if we had to visit it after closure we would also have to entertain visiting Epping - Ongar. Now would that not be fun?

This discussion is absurd.

We WILL NOT have to visit Shoreditch after it closes. Because we can't! It will no longer be part of the network! It will have CEASED to BE!

It will be an EX-STATION!!!

Nozza - don't bother telling Guinness you're going to attempt it. Just do it. Get all the evidence you can and THEN tell them you've done it - and it's up to them to decide whether or not your account of the attempt is authentic enough.

New record post Shoreditch

Post by spoogie37 »

As I understand the record is 18:35:43. Suppose someone does it in 18:35:42 post Shoreditch. Will that count? Or will Guiness take into account however much time it takes to do, say, Whitechapel to Shoreditch and back?

Or would 18:35:44 count as a record?
