You'd have to pick your day and time of travel carefully or you'd be bound to hit traffic somewhere. Macclesfield - Penzance is a big enough nightmare and that's half the distance!

The advantage the car has is that it can choose its route. Unless the train is diverted, it will always follow the same route.

Time of year is a huge factor you would struggle to drive it in that time during the summer months due to congestion in the south west.
