Sunset 9:31pm at Lands End
Sunrise 4:30am in Lowestoft

That gives you 7 hours to do about 450 miles
That's an average of 64 miles an hour

Good luck that's all I can say!

RAC route planner reckons 7 hrs 1 minute for the 430 miles, so completely doable in theory with just a smidgen of excess speed on the motorways.
2 attempts
2 completions
(Not getting much quicker)

Andi, surely you'll want to do it in the other direction? You'll then be pursued by the sun, rather than going in opposite directions ... and you'll probably have a few minutes more, too.

I did query Andi about this. He couldn't get the time work so will not be attempting to beat god in a race!

As a side note I'm also interested in what mode of transport is quicker, train or car, from Aberdeen to Penzance. Google maps says they take the exact same amount of time.

One good thing: You shouldn't get held up by an accident in a train ;)

How on earth could a car be quicker, given a clear run for both and no breaking of speed limits?

Then you have breaks and fuel stops. The train would have a higher average speed, surely?

20:52 arrive
Changing twice at Edinburgh and Birmingham. Fastest journey I can find.

Jouney time: 12h32m

The Car

Jouney time: 12h31m
692 miles
Average speed: 55mph

(Doesn't include fuel stops though)

And of course, the car will be traversing some roads which will not be bringing the average speed down.

I bet if you did this "race" in real life (and did NOT race the car!) the train would probably win. I'd love to have a go at it myself ...
