Re: 150 Years of the Underground
My vote is to start on the first train out of Shoeburyness and go round as a big group or two rival groups and see if we can get to Aylesbury before the pubs close! The route I've done finishes in Aylesbury at 20:53.palkanetoijala31 wrote:The person to ask is Martin as i kno he has done this and if subway on route we can run ahead for your order get it and ur be happy.Iain wrote:...especially with a Subway dangling in front of you

Re: 150 Years of the Underground
It is a bit of a hike from the Met to the Junction. Bus W30 links the two together every 30 minutes (I believe).
Taking Andi's suggestion a step (or several) further, you could try and get as many former (and the current) record holders to take part and compete against each other, but they must also have a non-record holder with them. With everyone starting on the same train out of Shoeburyness it should be quite good banter to start with for the first 45 mins to an hour.
I've probably been thinking that over a bit too much though...

Held some Alternative Challenge records for a long time.

Re: 150 Years of the Underground
16hour 13min estimated route. Aylesbury start, Shoeburyness finish.
I'm getting faster! But, I'm sure a certain someone could do a much faster route

Re: 150 Years of the Underground
Anyone fancy doing it in 1930s (or perhaps even 1860s) style clothes ?

Re: 150 Years of the Underground
Indeed I have done this transfer from Watford Met- Junction. At the time I was coming back from a tube challenge (in teh evening). It only took 15-20 minutes to do it and I wasn't doing it full pelt either (just a light run).palkanetoijala31 wrote:The person to ask is Martin as i kno he has done this and if subway on route we can run ahead for your order get it and ur be happy.Iain wrote:...especially with a Subway dangling in front of you
40 minutes Myles?! What way do you go?!

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!
Tangy.

Re: 150 Years of the Underground
I prefer the shoeburyness idea of a start more pratical for a night out beforehand but the aylesbury start also has its benefits me thinks.

Re: 150 Years of the Underground
While in London on Saturday I went on the search for Aldwych station and timed how long it takes from Temple. It takes 2min 30sec to walk from the Surrey Street entrance at Aldwych to the platforms at Temple. Mind you, it's a fair slope from the Thames to The Strand

Re: 150 Years of the Underground
Having made that walk many times during my uni days, I can confirm that there is no subway on route... however there is a cabbies snack hut on the way (assuming that it's still open!)
