From what I remember from seeing the map (I'll try and find the link), there is one way up/down (the escallators) which takes you to a T-junction. Turn left for the Edgware Branch and right for the High Barnet Branch. Now, these branches leads to the higher-level platforms. From what I remember, just before both opens out onto their respective platforms, there is a staircase on the right/left (depending which way you turn at the bottom of the escallators) that will take you to the lower level platforms. I'm not sure if there is a lower-level connecting corridor, nor am I sure about the emergency stairs. (I think they just go down to the higher level platforms with the option of going left or right, with stairs down those passageways that lead to the lower platforms).

But in answer to your question, the only exit is the main entrance/exit via the escallators. You might be thinking of Sundays (I think) when the station is exit and interchange only. Those who wish to travel must walk to Mornington Crescent or Chalk Farm stations.

So the "tubechallenge" corridors at at the South ends of the platforms don't link to the surface?

But you can interchange with every platform with every other platform. Plus they are closer together and uncrowded.

I don't know. The only way I've been in/out of the station is the normal way. I'll take a peek when I'm next in London and bored.

According to the second picture, they should as thats where the emergency stairs are located. And if My memory serves me well, the stairs come out at the top of the escallators, not sure which side though.

Piccadilly Circus has some secret stairs, but sadly they're not open for use.

When I did my various all Lines challenges, I went past the former staircase. It is now much wider and is signposted "Way Out". :(

***** wrote:Piccadilly Circus: The 'secret' staircase very definetely IS still open and in use! When on Northbound Bakerloo, be in Carriage 3, Door 4 - which takes you to the bit of the staircase that you can use, and is the quickest way to change from NB Bakerloo to Piccadilly (or the Piccadilly up to NB Bakerloo)
I did Eastbound Piccadilly - are you sure? From the picture on Secrets, it seems much wider than that pic. And a way out sign.

So what do they have against people using the spiral staircase there then?

***** wrote:Good question, no idea. Maybe it's in need of repair and they don't want to spend the money to bring it up to scratch. Maybe they've used some of the space for storage/equipment, and now can't move it, etc... etc... I've tried looking to find out on the t'internet (but can't) but would love to know how many steps there are in total on this stairwell to see where it 'fits' into my list of other "step'd" tube station depths.

Whilst we're on the subject... next time you're at Piccadilly Circus, go to the northen end of the northbound platform on the Piccadilly Line. Walk down the cross-over corridor that's there, and peer through the locked blue gates that are there. There are steps! Dark, dirty steps leading downwards ... but to where!? I'd like to know ...
hell probably!

Probably to the old lift shafts or abandoned corridors?

Seems strange for stairs to go down to lifts.

Its happened at other stations. Before the rebuilding works at Euston, at the end of the northbound platform, the stairs used to go down to the lifts (this is because the City and Bank platforms are at two different levels so the lifts went down to an intermediate level). The stairs at the end of the platform now lead up to the escalators.
