Re: West Ruislip / Ickenham
There was a U10 due when we arrived at Ickenham the first time I did a GWR attempt, but we decided not to wait for it, and it overtook us on the way up the hill. As it was about 30 degrees at the time I'd have loved to be on the bus instead!
Held some Alternative Challenge records for a long time.

in 26 attempts i have got a u1 twice once lucky going past once deliberate no trains from ickenham a u10 has once just past me as i got to ickenham but never seen since.***** wrote:So, by a bizarre twist of fate I founf myself in a church (long story) up up Ickenham yesterday. As I was waiting to meet my friend, a U10 bus rolled passed ... and i looked at the time table.
i all my day of tube challenging, i alwasy walked/run the Ickenahm/West Ruislip (or reverse) bit, and never got the bus. Has anyone here ever got the U1 or U10 and found it useful and saved themselves a run?

I've never had the luck of getting the bus but my motto is, if it's there when you run out the station then take it else just do it on foot

Re: West Ruislip / Ickenham
Caught a U10 on Tube Relief day from West Ruislip all the way to Uxbridge in the rain. (Having suffered an early setback on the Central with a prolonged stop at South Woodford due to signalling problems, which meant our train was turned at Northolt). And managed the same with a 142 at Stanmore to get across to Edgware later in the evening.***** wrote:i all my day of tube challenging, i alwasy walked/run the Ickenahm/West Ruislip (or reverse) bit, and never got the bus. Still keep threatening to have another crack at it, but have temporarily run out of round tuits.
Cheers,
Barry

I've never seen U2 and frankly I wouldn't want to, if that helps.

On a similar vein to the near mythical U1/U10, I was heading home from work the other day and managed to get one of the fabled Woodford via Hainault trains at Oxford Circus.

I used to see those trains all the time when I was doing minor challenges, but so seldom on a full network attemptbarrykas wrote:On a similar vein to the near mythical U1/U10, I was heading home from work the other day and managed to get one of the fabled Woodford via Hainault trains at Oxford Circus.

Don't you mean Hainault via Woodford? These are really rare, but the former are not rare at all - I think you would find that most trains going that way alternate between Epping and Woodford via Hainault - my mum used to live in Wanstead and found that usually every other train went to Wanstead.barrykas wrote:On a similar vein to the near mythical U1/U10, I was heading home from work the other day and managed to get one of the fabled Woodford via Hainault trains at Oxford Circus.

Re: West Ruislip / Ickenham
Woodford via Hainaults are every 20 minutes and when they have delays, they always get shoved to Epping instead. Whenever you are on a GWR attempt, they seem to go AWOL....
A lot of trains go to Hainault via Newbury Park hence the increased service to Wanstead which you may have noticed.

Yeah, to echo Sam's posts, most trains on the Woodford via Hainault business, aside one each twenty minutes, terminate short, at Newbury Park or Hainault.
Hainault via Woodford, now that is rare, although it has happened.

Shows how much attention I pay to timetable changes doesn't it? I thought Woodford via Hainault was a rarity, same as Hainault via Woodford.
