Re: Modern-day planning
Edgemaster too gentle when tube running? Since when?
This is the man who simply shouted "clear out of the way you lot" on the run between the Northern & Bakerloo lines at Charring Cross on the Snake last summer, and then managed to get ME in trouble for it from some TfL guard! You're second only to that pensioner pusher known by John Stark! (Well to be fair John, she nearly fell of her own accord, you don't actually push her, but you ran awfully close to her!)
Or perhaps I'm just too gentle with the gentle public in comparison to you horrible lot.

Ok, a slight exaggeration then...
Although it is quite fun to leap the barrier in my usual style at Sloane Square on the double backs...

No disrespect to either Neil or Geoff, but why do they need a tribute?! And (ego-pushing aside) would either of them actually want a tribute?!Root wrote:If Geoff and Neil decide to do a full network attempt next year, I think everyone who has got into Tube Challenging because of them should form a huge support team. It'd be a fitting tribute, and great fun, I imagine.
Of course, I won't be available myself...

Not really. It's all a bit embarrassing for me. I can't speak for Geoff because he's more of a media whore than me ...

Andi.... please explain yourself***** wrote:I'm quite amazed (worried?) about the people currently seeming to be doing one attempt a week! how are they funding it? what do they do as a job? how do they manage to have all that free time? etc..etc...
As far as route planning is concerned, I think JP really helps. This has been the main tool we have used over the years and bascially it allows you to make the best decision on which way to do things such as the Hainault loop, of course things can still go wrong but at least this should give you the best route in principal. I've done the full network 12 times now and don't think we did the same route twice, we are always coming up with new tricks and I'm convinced that there must be routes that are better than ours.

Re: Modern-day planning
Is Journey Planner actually practical when it comes to putting in a whole route? Not that I've actually used JP ever for anything.

Re: Modern-day planning
The first time you do it takes the longest, but once you've entered station names it's easier the second time. I would say that you can run a full network through in around an hour, possibly less. It depends if you are working off a fixed start as well, e.g Amersham-North Harrow (05:25 - 06:50) you don't have to punch this in every time once you know it, if that makes sense? We have our own methodology for using JP but I won't bore you with any more details!

Re: Modern-day planning
All I pay for is the petrol to Amersham and the car park at Amersham. Sleep in the car and the ticket is free and have lots of midweek days off so plenty of time to be running around the underground
