R15 championship
Hi, this is just an idea but I was thinking there could be a yearly championship that could include four R15 challenges, a Z1 challenge, a Z1&2 challenge and if we get interest, my Z1 interchange challenge. Times from each of the events would be added and the winner at the end of the year would be the person taking part in the most events with the lowest cumulative time.

Re: Tube championship
I like the idea. But i would point out that it wouldn't be fair to accept cumulative times from people that havn't done all the events. 2 people might jointly do the highest number of events but attend different ones, hence their cumulative times can't be compared fairly.

I have thought about it more and maybe be points based system could be used. Cumulative times would then be used at the end of the year in the event of a tie.dudey wrote:I like the idea. Re: Tube championship
ha yeah i've like it more now, it would be like a motor racing series. We can make a schedule of official 'grand prix' challenges throughout the year, with our 'traditional' meet ups being incorporated. And since it's the biggest, we could make the Z1 day in the last of season and the points champion can then be crowned there.

Re: Tube championship
I would like all events to count as by having best results only some people can miss out the more difficult challenges (Z1, Z1 interchange, Z1&2) and still by only doing the easier challenges.scrxisi wrote:If this were to go ahead, just make it so that all tube events that have, say, more then x amount of people taking part count towards the title, and then I think it'd be fair if you said it was your best 7 or 8 results that count (basically allowing those that can't make everything to miss events without penalty. If you do make everything, you get to pick your best performances).
And it's have to run May-May and end at the Z1. That way it will contribute to the jewel in the crown event, without undermining it. Maybe official Z1 should count double to cement its prestigious standing.

I've moved this thread from "Comments and Suggestions", as that section is for website suggestions, not challenge suggestions.

I would still like to see a fixed calendar of events that count though.scrxisi wrote:The easier challenges are easier for everyone though, so the results are still indicative. I doubt anyone on the forum can make all tube challenge events in one year!

Re: Tube championship
Seven challenges, and eight, if Andi's full network proposal is accepted! How many people are really going to attend all the events? Hardly any, I'd wager. It's very tempting, when one first gets into tube challenging, to want to do loads of challenges really quickly, but it's very easy to overdo it.
I don't think this would work.

Re: Tube championship
Funnily enough I was chatting to Going Underground about setting up an R15 Championship, seeing as we are planning to make the R15 Saturday a quarterly meet. But the idea I had was to introduce a point scoring system similar to F1 (10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1)
If we take the results from Tube Olympics R15 & CSR III the table would be....
Martin Hazel 18
Peter Smyth 14
Matt Scriven 13
Phil Brown 11
Antony Brown 11
Steven Karahan 10
John Stark 8
Jamie Brown 8
Kevin Brown 7
Ryan Brown 7
Justin Erwin 4
Richard Donaldson 4
John Mitchell 4
Zoey Mitchell 4
Jack Bynoe 3
Alasdair Brown 2
Andrew Baker 1
Lewis James 1

Re: Tube championship
I can't find a reference to this anywhere, in most sports I know they would just award them all 8 points for joint second place and then award 4 points for fifth and so on. For a R15 championship that all people on the first team should be awarded 10 points, all people on the second team should be awarded 8 points and so on. It would make team selection interesting for the final event.scrxisi wrote:I know F1 is only being used as a guide here, but if the (very) unlikely happened in F1, and there was a dead heat for 2nd, 3rd and 4th, those three drivers would all get (8+6+5)/3 = 6 1/3 points each.

Re: Tube championship
I would prefer all second place people to be given 8 points in the event of an R15 championship though and then fifth place awarded four points and so on, that way we can keep points as whole numbers and in the Olympics if 2 people were tied for first they would award 2 gold medals and the bronze, not a gold/silver combination for first and second.scrxisi wrote:I applied the principle of all members of a team scoring for that position anyway - e.g. me and joy54 got 10 each from our Olympics win. This is how things like the FIA GT championship are scored, to draw another motor-racing parallel. The dead heat rule was applied to the situation where three teams tied for 2nd at the Tube Olympics

Yes, for a championship that may never even exist I am thinking this far too seriously, sorry for that.scrxisi wrote:Let's not take this too seriously though eh? I was entirely doing it so I'd be promoted to second in a championship that doesn;t even exist yet!
