CENTRAL LINE DERAILMENT
Central Line currently suspended Liverpool Street - Leytonstone.
This sounds quite serious, lets hope it doesnt have the same effect on the line as the derailment did a few years ago.

The Service has been appaulling in the last two weeks, every time I go on TFL there is delays because Fire alerts, Security alerts, Faulty Trains and Signal Failures.
I mean whats next ''Ladies and Gentleman, we currently have severe delays on the Northern Line because someone has spilt some drink on the platform .''
Its not on I tell you!

Fire alerts, Security alerts, Faulty Trains and Signal Failures
What else are TfL to do, you cannot really blame them for those issues. Fire alerts are not their fault, you cannot help it if there is an issue where a station needs to be evacuated for personal safety thus causing delays.
Security alerts are mainly down to peoples own stupidity in leaving items unattended.
Faulty trains, well you can hardly blame them if a fault does occur.
As for Signal Failures, they could also occur at any time, I would guess that the weather isn't really helping with the signals at the present time.
I don't usually stick up for TfL but I think you are being a little unfair on them!

Can we just blame Metronet or Ken?

If my company was run and maintained like TfL we would be out of business within 12 months......
Sure we get the odd I.T. glitch, but at least our maintenance and operational procedures are designed to be pro-active......

I was not blaming TFL for anything, I was just saying that’s where I find information about delays.
I blame Metronet and Tube Lines for the Faulty Trains.
I blame stupid passengers for Security & Fire alerts.
and I blame the stupid drivers that London Underground employ for the Signal Failures.

I was wondering that myself.
Do they get out of the trains and unscrew the bulbs, or sabotage the track circuits and stuff like that?
I have to defend train drivers for personal reasons ...

Err, no that's a SPAD.Dr Who wrote:A Signal Failure is where a driver goes through a red light which then puts the Emergency brakes on the train. This will then cause delays to the rest of the line!
If a Signal was not working properly, then that would be classed as a Signalling Problem.
OK!
A signal failure is where the signal fails or a track circuit fails. Most signal failures on the underground are due to faulty wiring, bulbs blowing or the compressed air to the train stop failing, thus automatically setting the signal to red.

Well I would just like to thank Sam for starting this row off.
In my first post I was just saying the service has been bad in the last two weeks, nothing else.
Sorry to jonny for going off topic.
Oh and one last thing I have never scene it say on TFL
VICTORIA LINE: Minor delays are occurring due to a SPAD at Finsbury Park.
They call it a Signal Failure, not Signal Passed At Danger (SPAD)

Yes, that's because a driver did not pass a signal at danger.
The Victoria line is automatic train operation. How can the driver make the train go past a red when it's being automatically controlled? If an ATO train has a SPAD then there is a serious problem with the ATO system on the train, or the signalman replaces a signal to red as the train approaches with no room to stop.
Let's get this straight:
SPAD - the driver passes signal without authorisation. The only delay is caused by the driver being relieved of his duty IMMEDIATELY to see the DMT and explain what happened.
Signal failure - a signal suffers a mechanical or electrical failure causing long delays. This is not caused by drivers passing red signals.

I agree with the good Dr. that the service has been fairly appalling the last couple of weeks. There have been major disruptions of some sort or another for some time now. I don't think you can blame TFL because for years the system went without much investment and as we all know there is loads of work going on at the moment to refurbish the entire network.
I think the weather has played a big part in some of the service issues recently.
Today has served as a warning and shows that more care needs to be taken and it was lucky that nobody was killed or badly injured.
Heres hoping that the service gets sorted before 25th July

Dr. Who,
I did not start this argument, you are trying to blame something on TfL which I did not agree with. This forum is all about opinions, without opinion, you don't have a forum.
Plus, if you had your facts right, there would be no argument, signal failures are NOT TfL's fault nor are they SPADS! Signal Failures on the whole are down to Metronet/Tubelines!
