Of course, it's quite possible that the counter could reach 100,000 more than once. Let's suppose that you made the post that brought the counter up to 100,000. I could delete one of my own, bring the counter back to 99,999, and claim the 100,000th post for myself.

So I think the honour (such as it is) should go to the first person to bring the counter up to 100,000.

Given the way he sneaked in with post number 100,000, I wouldn't be at all surprised. (Of course there were fewer than 95,000 posts on the counter at the time.)

Much to my annoyance, I missed the moment when the counter reached 100,000! I logged off last night with the total at 99,995, and when I logged in this morning it had reached 100,003. However, a bit of counting reveals the crucial post to be this one from tangy, appropriately enough announcing the official results of the 2018 Winter Olympics Full Network Challenge:
