I've mentioned this idea to a few people on the forum and think that there should be enough interest to put on this event. The Tube Olympics will be 6 events crammed into a two week period, complete with opening & closing ceremonies (ok piss ups). The proposed event schedule is as follows:

11 July - All Lines Challenge, followed by opening ceremony.
15 July - Bottle Challenge
17 July - Zone 1 Challenge
19 July - Random 15 Challenge
22 July - DLR Challenge
24 July - Full Network Challenge
25 July - Closing ceremony and certificate presentations.

I will put up full details on rules for each challenge and how to enter in the coming weeks.

Just to answer a few questions I've been asked about the Tube Olympics.
They will only be held every for years, so if you don't enter this year your next chance is 2012!
You can enter as many or as few events as you like.
There will be certificates awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each event.
All events can be entered by individuals or teams.
The full network can be attempted as a GWR (if you can find a stopwatch operator)

The Full Network Challenge notwithstanding, would the events happen in the daytime or in the evening?

I already had a logo planned, it needs tidying up a bit though!



All events would be planned for the evenings apart from the full network! Special rules might need to apply for Cannon Street, depending on which challenge.

I have to say i prefer the 2nd logo the 1st the lady looks really ugly.

I think it's worth noting that the London 2012 Olympic committee are almost as arsey about trademark violations as LU are. (Can't find the news story right now - it was about a Nintendo DS game called Mind Olympics or something.)

Not that I'm objecting - I just think that it's neat that we can annoy two sets of lawyers in one go. Nice one

Would the DLR challenge replace the yearly DLR attempt at the end of July we discussed last year?

I'd like to do a R15, but it would have to be a weekend and quite an early start to allow me to get a train home again in the evening (last one is currently the 21:40 from Marylebone)

OK how about we do a R15 on Saturday 19th July instead of the DLR, it would make it even more interesting having to negotiate closed sections. I would say that we scrap the Mouse and on Tuesday 22nd July we do the DLR challenge, as that won't be to difficult to do a couple of days before the Full Network. The DLR Challenge would double up as the annual DLR. I'm not that bothered with doing a mouse, it seems a bit of a random challenge to be honest.

Bear in mind that Tower Gateway will be closed by then, which raises the question of whether you could do a 'proper' DLR challenge. (In fact, it looks like June might be the last chance to do the DLR in its current configuration, as Woolwich Arsenal is due to open before TG reopens...)
