National Rail trains are permitted to close their doors 30 seconds early, so the train actually left on time....

I know the trains are regular but London Bridge  Charing X the 1714 left at at 1712 and the 1719 at 1716

I missed the 1st train having a "comfort break"

Surely pure logic would say that the departure time is the latest time that you can physically board your train - ie the time that the train doors are finally closed. So why aren't all departure times from stations advertised as 1/2 a minute earlier, if drivers are so desperate to get moving? :?:

All times these days are advertised to the public as integer numbers of minutes past the hour (though I've seen historical counterexamples). Starkey, you might know if working timetables use fractions of a minute?

The tube definitely uses fractions of minutes, looks odd looking a time up and seeing 3/4 after a time!!!

Okay, then they should be advertised to depart at 1/2 minute BEFORE they want to shut the doors. Then I feel that it is logically fair.

Since it was half-term and the first day of full operation of new timetables, my nine year-old son Sean and I, have today had another go at the London Overground challenge we first did last year. We were astonished to complete in a final time of 5h15m56s, nearly 40 minutes quicker than before. The route was similar, but not exactly the same as the one we completed last year. It was a superb day of challenging when everything worked perfectly, or even better than expected. Zero minute changes were made, with trains running early, unless we were trying to connect with them. Sean is nine months older than last time, and though some of the runs we did were hard, he wasn't in quite as much agony at the end of them this time.

I can only hope for luck like that on some of my future challenges - but I doubt it. On a day like today, London Overground seems like best railway in the world -can't imagine why Sam wanted to leave them!

It's amazing what being offered a driving job can do when LO turned me down!!

Right, it's sorted! I'm going for the record on Monday. I'll be tweeting as I'm going round @Ravenjak49.

Anyone else going for the record on the 10th of December?

I can't do monday- but I'm tempted to give it a go. I could do Wednesday if I get a route together.

As the current joint record holders, I've promised my son that I won't do it without him. We've got a route planned, but it will have to wait until the school holidays for him - which won't be long now.

A 0618 start from Battersea Park perhaps?

On Twitter this evening, someone's posted a time for completing the London Overground orbital loop. Time to beat = 1hr 40min 40sec.

Wow. I didn't expect the Battersea Park complication. That rather limits options for making an attempt.

Battersea Park is not shown on the tube map - so I won't be including it in my attempt, and I don't believe The Raven is in his attempt today.
