I meant Network Rail, rather than national. The majority of the line is owned by TfL.

Would Willesden Junction count as being one station or two (high-level and low-level)?

I think it is only one station although you pretty much have to pass through both of them anyway.

I'd guess that if one was to travel up the DC to Watford Junction, then the Southern service from there to Clapham Junction could be helpful - provided that the timings worked out OK (they're only every hour). That train would cover the LO section between Shepherd's Bush and Clapham Junction, with Willesden Junction being covered on the trundle up the DC.

(This would also work in reverse, too )

You lot have rather stolen my thunder, I've calculated (what I believe) is the best route, with the intention to execute it when I can find a suitable date on which to do it. Once I find a date I'll run it through Journey Planner to find the best start and finish time for the fastest possible time with that set route.

However as you lot are rather getting a shift on, I can tell I'm going to have shove this up my list of priorities!

Could be interesting to work out the best station at which to start, given the chosen route, as LO services run to published timetables, as would some (or all) of the possible other connecting services. There might be a particularly bad connection somewhere, which could well turn into a good starting (or finishing) station.

Oh yes Roger, I accept that my route is only the best possible with a map and no detailed knowledge of frequency's - but it is also a very good way in which to start a record time. But I do have a starting and finishing station - and reversing the entire route may also make it quicker. I've already decided that I will one day (hopefully not to far away) have a crack at executing this, and once a date is set I'll put into motion all the playing with Journey Planner.

I might even have a go at plotting a route. All of the LO services are shown in the NR timetable, as will be most, at least, of the possible 'connecting' services that might be required. Could be fun!

I suspect the best time to do it is in the peak as the Goblin frequency increases from 2tph to 4tph and the WLL is also more frequent.

I too have a 5hr 39min route.

Somehow I feel GKR and I have the same route!!!
