Hi Daniel and welcome to the forum

I am pretty certain that there will be a Z1 day which is normally in May and I know that a couple of people have already spoken to me about the possibility of them organising it this year.....

I would expect a post confirming this sometime later this month :D

I have spoken to last year;s organiser, Chris Presswell, and as I have no desire to take part this year, I suppose I could do the honours.

After all, you lot want to try to win it, so you'd probably be best bending all your attention in that direction, and not getting caught up in the drag of organising :)

And it's with that that I hand the Zone 1 Challenge mantle of organisation over to Neil.

Actually, I was thinking about it earlier, and having already sort-of-helped-organised Tube Relief, including the pub afterwards, I have decided that I can't actually be bothered myself.

I know how annoying it can be :)

I think a suitable replacement and his esteemed colleague have been found to organise this year's challenge.

Just finalising some details with them, but I think we're in for this year.

David Scard (juice-rail) and I (Ric Brackenbury) have volunteered to organise this year's Zone 1 Challenge, and after undergoing an extensive vetting procedure ('You aren't ******** really, are you?') we've been given the go-ahead for it. Kevin Brown (Going Underground) may also be helping with running the event.

We've actually been thinking about it for a few months, and have a few ideas, but we'll suggest and discuss them in due course.

The first thing we will do is fix the date, and at this stage we are thinking of a Friday in May again.

3 things for now:
1) tubeguru, please consider moving this thread to the Alternative Challenges section.
2)PM or email (tpfkar at hotmail dot com) me if you have any ideas or suggestions about the event which you'd like to be on the table at this early stage.
3)If you have any friends you think might enjoy something like this, tell them about it now - let's aim for a record turnout.

And as defending champions, I hope the competition will be fierce this year, as it wouldn't look good if we won our own event! Here's hoping for a successful and enjoyable challenge.

OK, topic moved.

Spelling corrected in the title.

I have volunteered my services as official collator of scores and the such on the day, as I am not taking part. I believe my offer has been accepted by Ric :)

If I can get there for it, you KNOW I want to do this! It has to be done, nearly 3.5 hours is absolutely terrible!

Why is organising a Z1 day regarded to be so terrible an idea then? I can't see why...Sounds like an interesting challenge in itself to me! If I had the knowledge, and was about before, I'd have volunteered to help!

I'm vaguely considering flying in to do this. If it's on a date I can make, natch.
