This very interesting document appeared on the Tfl website a few days ago.

The most interesting bits for you tube challengers are the proposals to completely split the Northern line into two lines, thus simplifying the service pattern. They would be able to run 30 tph on each of the new lines that way.
Next to that, the Bakerloo would be extended to Watford, with Queens Park - Euston becoming a branch of the Bakerloo.

Next to that there's the Overground, the DLR extension to Dagenham and a whole lot of other interesting projects in this document.

History repeats...

After the last Chalk Farm derailment the Northern Line operated as two separate lines, and was much more efficient. There were rumours at the time that the split would become permanent as it worked so well.

And the Bakerloo went to Watford until 1982.

I was under the impression that the Bakerloo to Watford junction would be possible, or probable, from as early as 2007 as part of the overground proposals.

Bakerloo to WFJ will be possible when the 67TS begins to be phased out.

So they're coinciding it with the introduction of the 2009 stock then?

The basic premise is simple.

As soon as the 2009 Stock is introduced and the Victoria line management are happy to let a unit go off-line, it will be taken out of service, refurbished along with a Bakerloo line unit. These two trains will be combined into two new trains which will then be returned to the Bakerloo line.

Once enough trains are refurbished and reformed, Watford services will transfer.

Will that be the first time two different stocks have been combined to form a new one then?

I guess this would have happened before with the Standard and CO/CP stocks.

I didn't see any mention of the Croxley link though which appears on the 2015 map. Is this still stuck at the funding stage, as always touch out suggests or is it being ditched?

Page 48 says:

For illustration purposes, only some
elements of the PPP (those fully completed
by 2010) are included in the reference case.
It therefore excludes upgrades to the
Victoria, Northern, Piccadilly, District,
Metropolitan, Circle, Hammersmith & City
and Bakerloo lines.
In reality, investment is already going into
these committed projects and the cost of not
proceeding would be significant. Moreover, it
is questionable whether life-expired assets on
non-upgraded lines would still be able to
function in 2025.

Well that's me told then, like all good people in the world of education I didn't read a long report, I just used find and replace to pick out the words I needed, and Croxley didn't come up at all.

Guess I better pay more attention from now on. :P

That's what the papers do you know.

Helps spread a false image of a situation :-)
