Mini Tube Challenge Day - Friday Sep 1st

I am intending to combine the following two challenges on the same day and would welcome any other interested parties :D

1) The Desktop 129 Snake

Details can be found on the topic thread as below. I am intending to start at Epping on the 1136 hrs service and the finishing station is Harrow and Wealdstone. I would estimate the approx time would be 6 - 7 hours... :?
Anyone else competing can choose their own starting time, either prior to or after 1136 hrs, but as close too as possible in order that we finish reasonably close together at Harrow... :)
Everyone is following the same route, so this will work much the same way as a car rally..... :D

2) Evening Zone 1 starting at Barbican

I would like to try a Z1 from Barbican and we can probably head there after meeting up in Harrow....

3) Details

It would be possible to partake in either one or both of the challenges

We can discuss the finer points a little nearer the time, but just for now if anyone is interested can you please confirm which of the above dates is best for you ?

Does anyone know a good place to meet outside/near Harrow & W station where we can get some food/refreshments?

I would suggest that after the Z1 is completed (I am guessing around 10pm ish) we could meet up and compare times/routes at Earls Court McD's :D

Any of those days are fine for me, GU. I'll probably pop along to Epping for 11:30am, and see what's happening when I get there. And I was wondering if I could have a butcher's at your Way Out map when I'm there...

I've just had a look at Journey Planner. I want to start at 11:36am too! But I'm not sure if that's allowed.

By the way, I see that you're up to the B's for the Zone 1 thing, but it'll take you ages at this rate!

Nice one Starkey, no problems with the way out map :D

Being the organiser I have claimed 1136 start so you will have to find another one. If we start together I will no doubt lose you at around the second or third change where you disappear off into the distance

Yeah up to the B's for Z1 but gave up on Baker Street as too difficult

Well, we'll see. I'm not sure I'd be able to run for six or seven hours, you know.

I'm going to have a look at the Baker Street start. If one incorporates the Regents Park to Great Portland street run, then that starts to open the options up a bit!

I agree with a Baker Street start Regents Park is the key and an important cog in Z1 planning, but as it's closed until June 2007 (at best) for lift replacement and refurbishment.....
This won't be an option for a while.... :?

Make it the 1st, easy to remember then.

I'd probably be up for doing a 129, but I don't know if I can be bothered with a Zone 1, especially if we have picked the starting station before-hand... takes away all the fun of frantic last minute planning.

Ok Ollie, will pencil the 1st in and confirm nearer, do you have any idea what start time you might try from Epping :?:

The reason I picked Barbican is I am kinda trying to go through as many Z1's as possible alphabetically and I am on a mission to go sub 3 hours. I am sure we will all have different routes even pre-planned.... :D

Well, without consulting JP, I would estimate an Epping departure 20 minutes after yours.

You will probably go flying past me at some point then :D

If only trains could fly!

I can't commit 100% to this yet, but I'm definitely interested.

what are your attitudes on tempted new comers to the tube challenge world joining in? i'm sort of going to go for a non-world record breaking attempt at a 275 in my gap year so i half want a bit of practice building up with smaller challenges as well as the intensive planning that'll probably have to go into my bigger attempt :)

Our attitude is that you should definitely join in as much as possible! But be prepared to spend £6 on a Travelcard and to spend a few minutes planning the best route. (Although obviously for the 129 challenge the route is already set; you just have to do it.) Or you could just join up with somebody else and be a team.

Hmmm I was going to go for 11:56am from Epping too! Does Root's earlier reply mean that I now have to go for 12:16pm then? Blast.

With a Barbican start, I'm considering a Southwark finish. Does this sound totally nuts to you lot?

I'm used to the Underground and prices so I have a fair idea of what to expect, especially reading a few stories where some people's tickets have got lost and the need for replacements [mainly for the bigger challenges]

I'm trying to interest a few of my friends to help do test runs with me so with hope I'll join up with someone else for one of my first challenges to get in the spin of things :)

I guess this is gonna be a bit messy start wise but I can't see the point in all starting on the same train as we are all following the same route...quite a bizzare challenge really :?

My Barbican start ends at Bank, but is has it usual crazy double backs and the BR Vauxhall - Waterloo link thrown in

Of course you can join us if you like when we attempt these challenges sometime the week after next :D As far as I know there are already 4 others from the forum going so if any of your friends can't make it then I am sure one of us will team up with you on the day :D
