Anyone heading off for a holiday this summer? Anywhere nice?
I'm going to Finland to see my Grandma (aww), for two weeks. It's usually a lot hotter there than it is here, but considering the weather we've got here... I'm actually glad to be escaping it.
Yourselves?

I'm off to Swanage on the 29th for a week. Much sun and hot weather I reckon. Then it's back to the grind of university holidays until mid September. Oh and the delights of the Zone 1/2 challenge!

Swanage is great I don't know if you have been there before?
Be sure to visit the Steam Railway that runs out just past Corfe Castle and also Studland beach just along the coast is very good

Yes ... I've heard all about Studland beach.
We've been to Swanage every year since I was born actually, bar a couple. It's our usual family jaunt. And yes, we've been on the railway to Corfe a couple of times too. Very quaint!
Yorkshire sounds cold.

I'm off to Alcudia in Mallorca, i've just checked out the train network on the island and it doesn't look too promising for any challenges! The Soller Train (Tren de Soller) looks very interesting though with vintage brass & mahogany carriages.

On the week beginning 19th august I will be down in sunny Dorset, well Lyme Regis to be precise. Why go abroad when it will be just as hot here!
Although I will most likely not be on the beach but on the Westcountry's buses and trains.

Everyone seems to be coming down my way!
I got the steam railway today from Norden to Swanage, was very nice as well! Tangy, I know Lyme Regis well and really like it down there! Having just got back from Norway, holidays done and dusted for now!
Everyone have an excellent time though!

Now that's why I want to become a teacher.
I am in fact leaving in less than an hour, just thought I'd pop online to say goodbye to you all. Finland has free internet access at libraries nationwide (hurrah), so I'll no doubt be on once or twice during my hols.
My Gran tells me it was an arctic 17 Celsius there yesterday. That's half the temperature we had here...

Just returned from a week's hiking holiday in Ellmau, Austria, home of the Hartkaiserbahn, one of the longest funicular railways in the world.
Only 39 euros buys a week's pass for this, eight cable cars, and four chairlifts. Several of them are linked, and there is also a (free) Kaiserjet bus running between some of the bottom stations.
Putting this all together would make an unusual alternative challenge - the ability to run up & down mountains quickly being a definite asset!
