Could a challenge be done on a ...

Post by spoogie37 »

... Saturday? We'd need to assume that GWR will be sensible and not make us do Shoreditch (my God, did really just put GWR and sensible into the same sentence?) - but I think everywhere else is open on Saturday. Also, for the first bit at least - as far as Preston Road (haven't checked any further) - the times are the same as for in the week. Does mean I can recce at least that first bit without having to take time off work.

This, to me, is a very important question.

Cannon Street is open on Saturdays between 07.30 and 19.30 which means that when Shoreditch bites the dust you WILL be able to do a full challenge on a Saturday, so long as you visit CS between those times.

I'm not missing any other Saturday stations out here am I?

Of course it is - no rush hour, reduced frequencies in the provinces etc.

I can't see anyone breaking any records on a Saturday.

Is it "do-able" however?
(Is there a decent chance of getting around the network in that time?)

The late starting on Saturdays has not happened yet so at the moment starting/finishing times are identical to those on Mon-Fri. Also Saturday frequencies are the same as Mon-Fri but with no peak extras.

The main problem with Saturdays is there is always at least one section of line closed for engineering work, but if by some miracle there was a Saturday when everything was open I think it would actually be a good time for a record attempt.

Also not forgetting that many parts of the Tube are closed for engineering works on most weekends (both Saturday and Sunady) so if you want to do the challenge you would need a weekend free from improvement work, which are few and far between.....

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

Certainly for the next year there will be many weekend closures on the Northern, Victoria, Central, Piccadilly, and District Lines. I would be very surprised if there were any weekends without any closures, apart from maybe in the Christmas shopping period.
