Dublin Luas and DART Challenge

Post by Rennie »

Hi Tube Challengers - long time lurker, first time poster.

I haven’t seen any times for Dublin here, so decided to take a shot at the 98 stations of Dublin's fairly simple Luas and DART “network”. The Luas (Irish for “speed” or “free”) has two light rail lines with 67 stations, and the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) is a single heavy rail line with 31 stations.

All three lines go through the city centre with easy walkable transfers, and there are decent bus services around to fill any gaps. Between the radial/suburban nature of the three lines, some spurs, and a directional split, it was a fun planning and optimisation challenge for a newbie like me, but I’m sure it would be a piece of cake to the regulars.

Following the standard rules, I hereby declare the record for 98 stations to be 6:53:53, starting in the south-west at Saggart and ending in the seaside town of Howth. Though I finished with a pint, I elected not to stop by St. James’s Gate on the way home to submit a GWR. Maybe next time.

I haven't seen it in GWR, not sure if they would accept applications. I certainly didn't follow all of the ridiculous GWR requirements in my run, but would be willing to do it again if anyone wants to join, I'm sure my time can be improved upon
