Easiest/Best way to do north Picadilly/north Victoria

I'm planning my route again (the charity one I've previously mentioned) and am having a few problems working in the north ends of the Picadilly/Victoria lines. I've covered 83 stations at High Barnet and would take the bus to Oakwood.
One option to me is:
Oakwood - Cockfosters - Finsbury Park - Walthamstow Central - King's Cross - Arsenal - King's Cross
But it seems to involve an awful lot of doubling back!
I'm not expecting anyone to tell me the whole route for this sector (but would be most grateful) - but any hints that you could drop me would be most appreciated!
Ta muchly in advance

the tip is to plan a route which goes up to edgware, high barnet and walthamstow on the tube. that way you have a choice of buses at each end of line.
oh and doubling back at walthamstow is a bit time consuming.

So you're suggesting at various times, that I do:
Edgware - Canons Park (bus)
High Barnet - Cockfosters (bus)
Walthamstow - central line?

nah, there's more flexibility than that:
edgware - canons park or stanmore
high barnet - oakwood or cockfosters
walthamstow - leyton or south woodford, or national rail?
the other way round, particularly with edgware and high barnet, you have to risk making the wrong choice. buses from cockfosters are slow, and from stanmore infrequent. but doubling back one station also takes time. easier just to be able to get whatever comes first.

OK - just found a new option - bus from Walthamstow Central to Stratford or vice versa. The one downside is that it's a 40min journey. I'm thinking it's not worth it... second opinion please?

walthamstow to leyton takes 15-20 mins, so no that definitely isn't worth it!
