Tube Olympics 2024: Event 4- DLR Challenge.

Post by tangy »

The TOSA here to announce event 4 of the 2024 Tube Olympics.

Event 4 will be held on Tuesday 23rd July 4024, it will be a DLR challenge. Put simply, visit all 45 stations on the DLR network on a DLR train.

There will no formal meet up start station, you can start at any DLR station that suits you between 18:30:00 and 18:59:59 - your stopwatch starts when the doors are locked closed prior to departure.

Normal DLR Challenge rules will be in force: www.explorerticket.co.uk/tubechallenge/dlrrules.htm if anyone needs a refresh of them.

After challenge meet up will be as usual at The Blue Posts, Newman Street, Marylebone (in between TCR and OXC) - judging on the most likely finishing stations.

Thanks
Tangy - TOSA

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

I won't be able to do this one - there will be an orienteering race on that day.

I've almost finished but have decided not to go to the pub as I've got work tomorrow.

Route started at Woolwich Arsenal for the run up to Stratford International. Double back to Stratford to change onto the Lewisham branch - discovered how unfit I've got when I got out of breath doing that. At Lewisham was a quick cross platform change onto the Bank train. At Bank it was straight back onto a train to Shadwell and a couple of minutes wait there for the Tower Gateway service. Finally managed to grab the front seat on the Beckton train.

Will post final time when I get to Beckton.

Edit: final time 2:14:19. I figure this is OK to post as everyone else is probably finished by now too.
Not a plus one

Fell massively behind schedule due to Crossrail delays on my very first change and it was impossible to recover.

Fascinating to hear about the different routes producing broadly similar times.

Started well and on time but 1 min delay on arrival Stratford meant I missed the Stratford International by 20 seconds that cost me 6 mins - then a a Beckton shut in my face at Customs House, another 5 mins delay -Should have had 1 min wait out of Beckton but train departed as we were arriving so another 9 min dwell :( Then it all went wrong trying to finish at Bank / Tower and was way behind planned route time coming in at over 2hrs 30mins

Interesting to note Tangy's All Saints finish.
First to 100000 in the 2015+ Tumbleweed contest. Winner of a few rounds of a diverse range of quizzes/games. Some decent times in alternative challenges as a fiftysomething who merely walks briskly. Briefly led All The Actons.
