General Election 2024
So, now that drowned rat Rishi Sunak has finally called a general election, who will you be voting for?
You get one vote, but you can change it at any time if you wish. The poll will run for 43 days, taking us up to polling day itself.

Re: General Election 2024
Intersting fact. This will be the first General election in July since 1945. That was not a good election for the Tories....
Also, the 4th July is right in the middle of Wimbledon and the Euros. I assume that's intentinal...

Re: General Election 2024
I've been listening to a few political podcasts, and one of the top news channel's political editors has been told by senior Conservative sources that he went now because there were more defections and revelations of sleaze coming out in the next few weeks. He may as well lose now, than later in the year ...
He didn't choose July because he thought it was the best time. He was kind of forced into it by events overtaking him.

Re: General Election 2024
Judging from all the Tories not seeking re-election this year, that might be the case...

The ruling party in the UK has only changed twice in my lifetime. It's time for a change!

Re: General Election 2024
Of course they are. Changing our electoral system to proportional representation would go some way to improving the way governments work. This two-party system simply leads to a flip-flopping of new governments every few years, and large majorities that make it very difficult to get proper consensus on potential laws.
We're on course for another Labour landslide in July, which will be just as much use to us as Boris's 80-seat win last time

If you want change its much easier to work in the system then outside it.

Re: General Election 2024
True, MPs should be held to account like any public figure.
But a lot of MPs if they were not MPs, would lawyers, or broadcasters, or journalists etc. They're highly skilled and highly paid jobs anyway. And you can't vote them out of that job if you don't like them!
The narcissistic tend to be attracted to power. That can't be changed.
Unless, we choice MPs by lottery! Lol

Re: General Election 2024
Somebody chose Conservative and then removed it. Maybe Rhys has finally come to his senses ...
