End of the line Challenge

Post by DanRow »

Hey!

Me and a mate are talking about going to each 'end of the line' stop in as short time as possible, was just wondering if anyone had done something like this before? If not, if anyone has some helpful of tips from other challenges:
- What stops are good for a swift line change?
- Are there any lines where the last station is conveniently located to another station?
- What is a good station to start this from?

I'm doing my own research also, just thought it was worth posting on here for any tips!

Thanks

Just look at Google Maps on a mobile phone and you'll see all the Underground lines geographically. Easy to work out the close ones then!
Held some Alternative Challenge records for a long time.
Doesn't any more.

A start point is the end of the line connections used in a Full Network Challenge. I suggest browsing the FNC part of this forum. You should find plenty of write-ups there.

Whether you can make longer off-system connections to just reach the end of each line I'm not sure. TFL bus spider maps may be useful. Also consider fast NR trains in/out.

Some previous discussions, though not necessarily much about route planning:

Would this be the 12 station featured in Geoff Marshall's 'End of the Line' series? If so, you have (starting from the North-East corner and moving clockwise)...

Amersham
Chesham
Edgware
High Barnet
Cockfosters
Epping
Upminster
Brixton
Morden
Heathrow T4 & T5
Uxbridge
West Ruislip

...which isn't all the termini, just most of the remote ones plus a few others. (I'm surprised that Brixton features but Walthamstow Central doesn't. Nor does Harrow & Wealdstone, Richmond or Stanmore. Maybe he selected station based on if they would create an interesting video.)

I suppose it would be similar to a Full Network Challenge but without all the fiddly stuff in the middle of town. That would suggest a Chesham/Amersham and Heathrow start/finish, although that might not be best for this challenge. Google Maps is your friend for plotting routes, especially as it can show bus routes. Oh yes, and buses might be useful!

That series of videos isn't finished yet. The 13th station featured is...?

...Walthamstow Central!

Because Geoff did an "Easter Eggs and Outtakes" video, I assumed the series had finished.

I'll define the end of lines as follow:

Bakerloo: Elephant & Castle, Harrow & Wealdstone
Central: West Ruislip, Ealing Broadway, Epping
Circle: Hammersmith only (some trains run through Edgware Road so it doesn't count)
District: Wimbledon, Richmond, Ealing Broadway, Kensington Olympia, Edgware Road, Upminster
Hammersmith & City: Hammersmith, Barking
Jubilee: Stanmore, Stratford
Metropolitan: Aldgate, Uxbridge, Watford, Amersham, Chesham
Northern: Morden, Battersea Power Station, Edgware, Mill Hill East, High Barnet
Piccadilly: Heathrow T5, Uxbridge, Cockfosters (trains run through T4 so it doesn't count)
Victoria: Walthamstow Central, Brixton
Waterloo & City: Waterloo, Bank

And a visit is defined by arriving / departing on a train in the correct line (so Barking must be visited on a Hammersmith & City train, Uxbridge needs to be visited twice). If the station is closed due to long term construction or emergency, a visit will instead need to be made to the terminus where train actually run to. You must take account into when Kensington Olympia and the Waterloo & City line are open.

Uxbridge only needs to be visited once, if you arrive on the Met and depart on the Picc, or vice versa.
