Zone 1 Challenge Cup 2022

The post everyone has been waiting for, the return of the Zone 1 Challenge Cup! Friday 10th June 2022.

After a two year enforced hiatus, it is back... now with three extra stations!

The aim is simple: visit all 67 stations on the London Underground system that are within Oyster card Zone 1 in the fastest time. You will be competition with other teams (and the trains themselves) for the coveted Zone One Challenge Cup. All teams will start from the same station at the same time and the start station is not known until 45 minutes before the challenge...

The recent extension of the Northern Line to Battersea brings three new stations into zone 1- Kennington, Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station. This means the record has been reset for the new 67 station configuration, so why not come along and set a new record time for others to beat!

Full details of the event (including meet up location, timetable of the day, rules of the challenge and after event quiz) can be found on the dedicated website at http://www.explorerticket.co.uk/tubecha ... ne1cup.htm

Even though this is an open invitation event, it would greatly assist me if you notify me of your attendance at the event (even if you are at this stage a maybe). Contact details are on the website (see link above) or if you have me on social media, message me.

Hope to see many of you there, be it a first timer or a regular challenger that shows up year after year.

Thanks
Tangy
BOZO (Boss Of Zone One).

Do the times that DavidC and myself set on the new configuration not count as something to beat then?

It's a little ambiguous in wording. It loosely implies that no new times have been set but doesn't state it for certain.

But yes, a few new times have been set (one of which is mine), and so the time to beat is (correct me if I'm wrong) 3:06:39.

Of course they, just have not got round to making a new Zone 1 page for Explorer Ticket (trying to get IT issues with the host/server resolved which has made the whole site unavailable at times was more of a concern), thus didn't know what the time to beat currently stands at as there is currently no leaderboard for the 67 station configuration!

I have the emails concerned from David and James.

South Kensington's Piccadilly Line platforms reopen on 1st June, which could simplify the challenge a little.

Has anyone got a list of the stations used for starting in the previous Z1 years so we know what won't be in the "bucket" ?

It's on the Rules page on the explorerticket site:
The list of start stations that have already been drawn out are: Vauxhall, St. James's Park, Sloane Square, Westminster, King's Cross, Angel, Waterloo, St. Paul's, Aldgate East, Regent's Park, Lancaster Gate, London Bridge, Edgware Road (Circle), Warren Street, Chancery Lane and Mansion House.

Question about the "catch the first train in your direction of travel" rule...

If the start station is on the Charing Cross branch of the Northern line, challengers could start by heading down to Battersea Power Station. Would they be allowed to wait for the first train which goes all the way, or would they have to take the first southbound train, regardless of destination, and change at Kennington if needed?
