Re: Zone 1 with the NLE
I've finally been able to get around to trying again. I was hoping for July but in June, after the Leicester Tigers vs Saracens final, I fell and broke my right ankle on the way to Twickenham station. From there, I had to get back to St Pancras, train to Chesterfield and my son took me to hospital. Hadn't broken a bone before, never want to again!
Anyway, on Friday 2nd September I did
Battersea - Waterloo - London Bridge - E & C - Paddington - Paddington - Moorgate - Euston - TCR - Queensway - Bayswater - Earls Court - Sloane Sq - South Kensington - Russell Sq - Holborn - Liverpool St - Aldgate - Aldgate East - Victoria - Vauxhall
I started at 10:26 and did it in 3h 20m 37s. A whopping 1hr 23m was changes; 9 mins between the two Paddingtons and an excruciating 14 mins between Queensway and a District from Bayswater to Earls Court.
And that's it; I'm never doing this again! I've got the whole thing on recorded on my sons GoPro which I attached to my back pack and I'll be uploading this to You Tube/TikTok when I can edit it. I was never going to break any records, I AM a fat old grandad and I can't run between these stations/interchanges. I just wanted to to prove to myself at 55 I can plan and do something that I enjoy.

That's very impressive given you had a broken ankle in June! Hope the rehab continues to go well and that we can tempt you back for more challenges in the future.

Re: Zone 1 with the NLE
Didn't want to start a new thread — thought I'd mention that today I had a go at the Zone One challenge for the first time, and did it in 3 hours, 11 mins, 6 secs. Quite pleased as a first attempt but nowhere near what it was supposed to be according to my theoretical route timings. I might try it again in a few weeks.
Incidentally I'm surprised there's such a big gap between the world record times for the 64 and 67 station Zone One challenge, when you consider the new stations only take an extra 10 minutes or so. 2 hours 36 mins for 64 stations and 3 hours 3 mins for 67 stations.

I notice on Tangy's Explorer Ticket website that a new record has been set for the Zone 1. 3:02:46 by Nacho Ponce. Does anyone know anything else about this?

Re: Zone 1 with the NLE
Interesting. I thought it wouldn't be long before the record was broken, because there's a big gap between the 64 and 67 station records. The 64 station record is 2 hours 36 mins, and it doesn't take 27 minutes to do the extra 3 stations.Lunaticonthegrass wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 23:00 I notice on Tangy's Explorer Ticket website that a new record has been set for the Zone 1. 3:02:46 by Nacho Ponce. Re: Zone 1 with the NLE
Thought I’d try to recover my Z1 record today, now with 67 stations. Success with a time of 2 hours, 57 mins, 53 secs. So that’s the time to beat on Friday’s Z1 challenge.

Re: Zone 1 with the NLE
As I have bought an annual 1-2 Travelcard I may consider doing this challenge some day during the year.
Meanwhile has anyone done the Zone 1 challenge across all networks (including Underground, DLR and National Rail)? It comes with an added challenge to depart Marylebone by NR as well as the first stop out is in zone 4.

I'm not aware of anyone doing all modes Zone 1, but there was a National Rail Zone 1 challenge, Marylebone included:
