Nice-looking station! Where is it?

Can you identify a station from just a paving slab? Sadly, some people can

Station Delta

Post by RobbieM »

Okay, here’s Station Delta for you. Another photo taken on one of those trips where it seems I was travelling by train for days on end. (Well, I was, but then I like doing that kind of thing….)

• Name Station Delta.
Bonus: Which seaside terminus station can be found 93⅓ miles from here?

PM those answers. Still waiting for someone to use carrier pigeon! 😊

Am I the only one who thinks that these are getting a little too hard to get without waiting for the hint now?

And by that I mean ... the bonus question used to be a lot more helpful. I remember being able to get lots of these right by using the picture of the station, and the bonus question together. But now we have bonus questions which don't actually help much. Unless I want to draw a 93.33 mile radius circle and move the edge of it over every seaside town with a railway station until the centre of it rests on another railway station. Which I am NOT going to do

I wasn't asking for the specific answer or clues to this one ...

What I’m saying is it’s not as hard as some previous ones as there is signifiers as to where it might be

Well yes ... but I always used to like the fact that the bonus was more helpful.

Interesting discussions! :D

I'd always intended that the bonus should be a bonus, after getting the station (with a few exceptions - e.g. Trowbridge, Rhymney). However, I often find when I'm trying to set a bonus question, it's often in danger of becoming a hint in its own right. Hence why I've recently put in a few of these long-distance circles to explore.

The next couple of stations should be a bit less obscure, and have better bonus questions. (That's my plan, anyway! :) )

I'll leave Delta a bit longer before giving the hint. (First correct answers were received within 24 hours.)

Station Delta - Hint

Post by RobbieM »

Okay, I'll make it a bit more gettable now...

Go back to the post where I introduced Station Delta. Remove all the spaces between the words, and see if anything jumps out at you….

Station Delta closing soon...

...sorry it's taken so long, I've been busy. Will hopefully answer it Monday evening. Last chance for guesses.

Station Delta - Answered

Post by RobbieM »

Okay – this was a bit tricky without the hint, but finally here’s the answer.

From the hint: remove all the spaces between the words of my original Delta post. And when I was talking about “travelling by train for days on end”…

…there it was, buried all along! Rainford is our station.

And for the bonus: 93⅓ miles away in a roughly south-westerly direction, you’ll find the seaside terminus station at Aberystwyth.

Well done to trains500 and tubeguru, both getting station and bonus correct.

Station Echo coming soon – and hopefully a bit less obscure than Delta. Watch this space! :D

Station Echo

Post by RobbieM »

Righto, here it is: Station Echo Echo Echo Echo Echo Echo Echo. This one looks a bit more interesting than the last.

• Name Station Echo Echo Echo Echo Echo Echo Echo.
Bonus: There is another station, located 6.2 miles from Station Echo Echo Echo Echo Echo Echo Echo, which has a special place among all of those on the national network. What is significant about this other station?

Fire away with those answers! 😊

Station Echo - Hint

Post by RobbieM »

Alright, correct answers received, but a bit slower than usual. So it's hint time:

The island platform at this station was a record-breaker when it opened.

Well, I certainly didn't beat my 'One second to guess' record...

I may take a shot at it now, and prepare to be wrong...

EDIT: ...though I'm reasonably confident I recognised that paving slab correctly...
