Random 15 Championship 2019/20: Round 3
Welcome to the 2019/20 Random 15 Championship. I am your host (commonly known to regulars as the BERC when I am hosting Random 15 challenges). The Random 15 challenge is just that, visit 15 randomly selected stations that feature on the Tube Map (usually within zones 1-2 and using the Underground network only). There will be certain rounds within the championship that are a variation of this such as adding an extra zone or network e.g. DLR onto the challenge. So are you ready to take on the Random 15 championship?
The rules and scoring are unchanged from previous seasons but if anyone is not familiar with them, or needs a refresh, they can be read here: http://www.explorerticket.co.uk/tubecha ... 5rules.htm
Round 3 is fast approaching, so here are the details:
When: Saturday 11th January 2020 12:30 UK local time.
Pre-challenge meet up point: Stratford (meet by the labyrinth on the JLE concourse).
Post-challenge meet up point: Our regular haunt. The Bricklayers Arms, Gresse Street (off TCR).
Variant: As is now traditional for round 3...its the National Rail twist. Therefore, National Rail (and Overground) stations within zones 1 and 2 will be added into the mix.
Time limit: 6 hours
Closures affecting the challenge: Correct as of time of posting.
Chiltern: Marylebone closed- trains diverted and/or stop short including to/from West Ealing!
Jubilee: No service Wembley Park- Waterloo
Metropolitan: No service Northwood/Uxbridge- Aldgate (Uxbridge branch served only by Piccadilly).
Overground (North London Line): No service Hackney Wick- Stratford.
Other closures to be aware of:
Great Western: Greenford branch closed- but some Chiltern trains diverted to West Ealing via this line.
South Eastern: No trains Lewisham- Orpington/Dartford via Bexleyheath. Reduced frequency Lewisham- London Bridge/Cannon St/Charing X.
South West Trains: No trains via Wimbledon (diversions via Richmond/Windsor lines). Reduced frequency of local services to accommodate diverted long distance trains.
As this round contains National Rail stations, a standard Tube Map may not be sufficient for you to plan your challenge. You are advised to bring a copy of the London Connections map with you as this shows all rail services in Greater London. You can usually get copies at most National rail stations (may need to ask the ticket clerk if they are not on display).
Everyone is welcome but please advise if you are attending.
Thanks
The BERC

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

Re: Random 15 Championship 2019/20: Round 3
To clarify, here is a list of what stations are to be included in the challenge:
--All LU stations in zones 1-2. (except those closed for engineering work)
--All Overground stations in zones 1-2.
--NR Stations counted as separate from the above: All London Terminals, Battersea Park, Bethnal Green, Brixton, Cambridge Heath, Clapton, City Thameslink, Deptford, Drayton Park, East Dulwich, Elephant & Castle, Essex Road, Finsbury Park, Greenwich, Hackney Downs, Herne Hill, Lewisham, Limehouse, Loughborough Junction, North Dulwich, Nunhead, Putney, Queenstown Road, Rectory Road, South Bermondsey, St. Johns, Stoke Newington, Vauxhall, Waterloo East, Wandsworth Town, West Hampstead Thameslink.
Out of the above Marylebone (NR) is closed for engineering works.
The golden rule is that if you need to exit one set of ticket barriers then enter another set of ticket barriers to transfer to the other network then it is classed as separate. At stations where one can interchange between two different networks without passing through any ticket barriers then it is counted as one station can be visited by any of the above networks included in this challenge.
Examples include: Farringdon, Highbury & Islington, Kensington Olympia, New Cross, West Brompton, Whitechapel to name a few.

On the 11th January? You want the 0825 Witham train on platform 10 at Stratford...Going Underground wrote: ↑30 Dec 2019, 14:23 Anyone know what platform I need at Stratford for Greater Anglia service to Romford?
All London buses: 23 hours 25 minutes (with Adham, David, Josh and Tangy)
Holds some alternative challenge records. Not sure which ones.
20½ Random 15 challenges: 01:58:48 best
That guy who runs those Twitter polls about tube stations and London Boroughs.

Re: Random 15 Championship 2019/20: Round 3
Yes, there are some mainline trains that do stop at Romford from platform 10 and take around 8 minutes to do the journey from Stratford but there are generally only one or two an hour that do this. The all stations Crossrail service leaves from platform 8.The Orange One wrote: ↑30 Dec 2019, 23:02On the 11th January? If Hackney Wick was drawn and I took the rail replacement service from Stratford, would that count as visiting Stratford? Or do we need to leave on a physical train?

What Stratford is the official one that needs visiting / departing from - LU or otherwise?EastActionWoman wrote: ↑31 Dec 2019, 13:39 If Hackney Wick was drawn and I took the rail replacement service from Stratford, would that count as visiting Stratford? Or do we need to leave on a physical train?

From Tangy's description above, Stratford is just one station - don't need to go through barriers to get from LU to NR.Going Underground wrote: ↑01 Jan 2020, 14:25What Stratford is the official one that needs visiting / departing from - LU or otherwise?EastActionWoman wrote: ↑31 Dec 2019, 13:39 If Hackney Wick was drawn and I took the rail replacement service from Stratford, would that count as visiting Stratford?
