On National Rail you can buy a Zones 1-6 Travelcard, which covers travel from your local station plus London Z1-6.It is generally good value and you get a 34% discount with a Network Railcard. But with TfL adding zones left, right and centre, how do you travel to say Rickmansworth in Zone 7? This affects all stations in Zones 7-15.

At the moment the only way I can work out is to travel to Moor Park (the last station in Zone 6), get off, tap in with Oyster or contactless and get on the next train, adding maybe 15 mins to your journey. You used to be able to buy a cash ticket but this is far more expensive these days (£4.90 compared to £1.50). Any ideas on how to avoid changing trains?

I once had a similar issue to this so I went to the ticket office at Waterloo and asked for a Zone 1-9 travelcard and explained that I was heading to Amersham and Chesham when they asked if I wanted a Zones 1-6 travelcard it was for support on an FNC as well if I remember correctly!

You can get a Z1-9 travelcard already, but I think if you buy it from an NR outlet then it has to be "issued from" Amersham to Z1-6 and the route shows zones 789. The other zones are just for Oyster purposes and a ticket from Boundary Zone 6 to the station in question is needed if travelling from London with a paper travelcard ticket.

You can get a Z1-9 travelcard already, but I think if you buy it from an NR outlet then it has to be "issued from" Amersham to Z1-6 and the route shows zones 789.

Which is OK if you're starting from within Zones 1-9, but not much help if you're coming on from outside and want a combined Travelcard!

Get a ticket issued for your starting station to Boundary Zone 6.

I had this sort of issue trying to buy z1-9 tickets for a challenge from my local NR station. Ended up bussing it to Morden to get one which was a pain!

I remember that after the Cannon Street Run there was some discussion as to whether Reading, Twyford and Maidenhead should be included in the SLAM challenge once the Elizabeth Line services go live, as they are all south of the Thames. I can't remember what the outcome of this discussion was - can anyone enlighten me?

As it is South London All Modes, it was decided to exclude them, so the current 94 stations in the SLAM remains the same.

Yes Abbey Wood is definitely in south London and on Crossrail so should be included when it opens (as should the Woolwich Arsenal Crossrail station as I believe that would be separate from the current NR/DLR station).
