This all-London challenge sounds mad. Having seen the state of David (xcooler123) at midnight, Heathrow, when we completed the Olympic FNC in 17:26, I'm not sure what state he will be in after 40 hours. Certainly dazed and confused. My money is he falls asleep on the night tube and ends up in Morden depot or gets arrested for possession of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine.

Someone suggested to me recently, why don't you do the three tube challenges consecutively. London (Day 1), Paris (Day 2) and New York (Day 3 and 4). I gave the same answer people have said to me over the last couple of years "Why?"

Surley 5 days, London (1), Paris (2) Flying (3), New York (4 & 5)

It doesn't take a whole day to fly - a rough itinerary would be

DAY 1 - Start 0500 (London time), complete all of London. Make your way back to St Pancras, using night buses if necessary
DAY 2 - Catch 0540 (London time) from St Pancras to Gare du Nord, arriving 0917 (Paris time). Complete all of Paris.
DAY 3 - Catch 0910 (Paris time) Air France from Charles de Gaulle to JFK arriving 1200 (New York time).
Start NY attempt around 1400 Day 3, finish 1200 Day 4 (New York time).

Taking into account the time difference, that would be somewhere in the region of 84 hours.

If the London leg had a Heathrow finish, no night bus should be needed as Night Tube on the Picc would get you to KXSP.

Or surely you could just head over to Heathrow Terminal 4 then take the 0620 (London time) Air France flight to Paris Charles de Gaulle arriving 0835 (Paris time)?

As you say, it's theoretically possible in four days but my main concern would be lack of sleep. First night about 5 hours at Heathrow or STP. Second night about the same in Paris. I suppose sleeping on the plane is a possibility. Third night no kip at all. I certainly couldn't handle that. Imagine the state you would be in at noon on day 4. You wouldn't know where you were or what you were doing. Needs a braver (or more stupid) man than me.

Try this:
Day 1 in Paris. Should make last Eurostar to London at 21:13 and Met to Chesham. Sleep.
Day 2 in London ending at Heathrow. Sleep.
Day 3 fly to New York dep 08:20 arr 11:00 and hit the NY subway until noon on Day 4. Sleep.
That way you get two nights sleep in London and only have to survive for 36 hours without sleep on Day 3/4.

Going back to the OP, I worked out a route for this last year and it came in at 34:06, albeit I didn't bother with Battersea Park. I'm now wondering what I missed out! Of course, the whole is slightly less than the sum of the parts because a) some bits overlap (eg Bakerloo/Overground) and b) you mix and match between the different systems. I don't think I'll ever be able to do it in reality because Friday nights are normally impossible, but I shall watch this thread with interest.

Glad to hear someone else is considering doing this challenge - been considering this for a while myself. Having done 430 back in November as a trial (and learning an awful lot in the process), I reckon it's possible to do in 33 - 34 hours, even with an overnight stop in a hotel/hostel/B&B/etc. Current plan for my attempt is at the end of (Thursday 25th & Friday 26th May) and I wish you all the best with your attempt in March.

I did include the trams. Out east was rather messy, though, and I think I've missed W Ken and Baron's Court! It was very much a first draft.

Unfortunately, due to Shenfield not being served by TfL Rail until late May 2017 and being informed I will likely have to attend a family event on the weekend I had originally chosen, I have decided to postpone my attempt until sometime in the summer. It will also at least give me chance to get a decent route together and go out and test some of it. Watch this space...
