Alphabet Challenge in teams
What would the interest be for an Alphabet Challenge in teams on a nominated day later in the year
This would be similiar to the Zone 1 challenge with teams meeting at specified place and time

If we can get it off the ground it will pretty much be an all day challenge...allowing for meeting up before and after....
Not quite up to the 275 demands, but I think this could be feasible....
Depending on interest we could split half the teams A to Z and the other half Z to A (Not literally Z but you know what I mean )
Or is the 2 seperate challenges
Out of interest has the Alphabet Challenge been tried backwards

If we were to draw a random starting station (same as Zone 1 challenge) then it would be not be possible to plan your entire route so I am sure that there would be numerous variations....upto at least Ickenham anyway, by which time we could be split up all over the Network
Would be intriguing to hear the views of some of our "Tube Oracles" on this subject, I thought it would be an interesting challenge to try and get a few teams out and about on the same day later in the year....and lasting a little longer than Zone 1 without the blood, sweat and tears of 275.....

You could choose a random starting letter for each team.
The first team then travels from that letter FORWARDS in the alphabet, going from W to A where appropriate.
The other team goes BACKWARDS, going from A to W where necessary.
That should keep everyone apart. It would mean different start times of course but it's the overall time that's important.

Unless you only stopped the clock when you got back to the starting letter people starting at Ickenham could have an advantage as they'd only have to travel all the way in once.tubeguru wrote:You could choose a random starting letter for each team.

If we all start at Ickenham are you saying that some teams would be allocated I to Z and the others I to A ?
I make this that the teams travelling forward would have to visit a further 13 stations and those going backwards would only have to visit 8...
An Alphabet challenge should surely take in all 22 letters, be it A to Z
or Z to A
I think we are probably over complicating the scenario.......maybe the best solution would be to use the regular meet point of Oxford Circus and then each team draws a different starting station in Zone 1, first team drawn does A to Z, second team drawn does Z to A, Third team A to Z etc....
We all leave Oxford Circus together to head to our relevant starting station drawn in Zone 1 and then begin the Alphabet Challenge when doors close at the applicable starting station.
Sure there is the luck of the draw But by doing it this way this should avoid any following of teams around....

Right I am with you now, so if you start at Ickenham and do the A to Z forwards your finishing letter would be H and working from Z to A the finishing letter would be K
Perhaps we can see what the interest is for this on Zone 1 challenge day and then maybe set a date for a team challenge sometime in the Autumn

The only fly in the ointment would be the starting point.
If all teams started from the same point, there may be an unfair advantage to some teams rather than others.
But the basic logic if sound.
Effectively, you can have 22 teams, each picking a starting letter, and has already been said follow them through in order

That sounds like good idea
So we have central meeting point and then each team draws a letter at random.
Does anyone know when Queensway is re-opening
If it doesnt count or not re-opened there is always Queensbury etc...
