Can you identify a station from just a paving slab? Sadly, some people can

The Snake

Post by RJSRdg »

In the early days of computing, one of the first graphical games was 'Snakes', where two players (or a player and the computer) would draw a snake across the screen, the object being to use your snake to box in the opposing snake so that your opponent's snake ran out of space before yours did.

The game I'm about to suggest has a similar idea, but with only one snake.

Starting from Oxford Circus, name an adjacent station on the Tube & Rail/London Connections map,the next player names one adjacent to that, without repeating a station.

The game ends when the next player to play cannot name a station because:

a) All the surrounding stations have already been named e.g. Oxford Circus > Bond Street > Baker Street > Regent's Park would be a completed game.
b) The last station played was a terminus.
c) On a Network Rail line, the next station would be off the map e.g.if the last two moves were Hayes & Harlington and West Drayton repectively, the next player would not be able to play without going off the map.

The last player to play a station successfully is the winner. Players may not play successive moves unless 24 hours have passed since the last move. i.e. if Alf plays and nobody makes another move,Alf can play again 24 hours later, but if Bill plays after Alf, Alf can play again immediately.

For the purposes of this game, any stations shown as connections on the map count as one station (i.e. Hammersmith, White City/Wood Lane, Paddington, Bank/Monument etc are each one station). London Overground, DLR,Network Rail and Tramlink can all be played, but OSIs are not permitted other than the connections previously referred to.

So,starting from OXFORD CIRCUS, I play PICCADILLY CIRCUS.

This was an actual challenge, once!!

Assuming Piccadilly Circus was an invalid play, I play Hyde Park Corner.

The only other station next to Knightsbridge is South Kensington, so I am going to play that.

Let's shake things up a bit, shall we?

With a sideways shuffle via Waterloo East, we hurry down to New Cross.
