2015 Z1 Challenge- The Results

Post by tangy »

The results of the 2015 Zone 1 Challenge Cup, held on the 29th May 2015.

The start station was London Bridge. There was 22 challengers in 14 teams, so in reverse order:

14th: "Invictus- The Victorious non-Victorians" (Rob Mansell and Guy Barry). 14 stations completed.
13th: "Amersham of a Team" (Sam Inman and Aaron Dadd), completed in a time of 04:09:24 at Vauxhall.
12th: "We hate the Bakerloo Line" (Lewis Nagle and Aubrey Morandarte), completed in a time of 03:49:53 at Waterloo.
11th: "Don't forget Marylebone and have we been to Charing Cross yet?" (Leam Farrar and Nick Gardner), completed in a time of 03:37:55 at Edgware Road (Circle/H&C).
10th: "TfL Fail" (Andrew Chilcraft), completed in a time of 03:32:19 at Waterloo.
9th: "I'm Singing in the Rain-ners Lane" (Glen Bryant), completed in a time of 03:25:20 at Vauxhall.
8th: "Canada Waterlogged" (Nicholas Smith and Emily Thomason [part]), completed in a time of 03:20:30 at Knightsbridge.
7th: "Here we go-o, running all Oval Zone 1" (Damian Cook and Kevin Brown), completed in a time of 03:20:22 at Vauxhall.
6th: "I don't stand a Barking dog's Chancery Lanes in Hellingdon of winning and these bad puns are making my Temple hurt" (Richard Graham), completed in a time of 03:05:42 at Euston Square.
=3rd: "Only old bold gits wear shorts" (Andi James and Steve Wilson), completed in a time of 02:57:46 at Vauxhall.
=3rd: "Dagger n Yeast" (Tangy), completed in a time of 02:57:46 at Vauxhall.
=3rd: "Gone with the Wimbleware" (The Orange One), completed in a time of 02:57:46 at Vauxhall.
2nd: "At least its stopped Rayners Laneing" (Peter Smyth), completed in a time of 02:56:41 at Vauxhall.
1st: "Tufnell Park Rangers" (Clive Burgess), completed in a time of 02:55:42 at Borough.

Winner of the best team name was Peter Smyth, who also scored highest in the quiz (scoring 41 out of 50). This is a repeat performance of last year, when Peter won both best team name and scored highest in the quiz.

Many teams were held up for a few minutes due to disruption on the Bakerloo, forcing all trains to a stop at stations. The train most teams were on was stopped at Lambeth North, costing the challengers affected a few minutes whilst running to other stations to carry on with their planned routes.

Thanks to everyone for attending and taking part, to the regulars who come year after year and to the first timers who took on the challenge on their debut. The overseas nature of this challenge continues as Nicholas and Emily are residents in US (but were born in Canada) and were taking part whilst on holiday over here in London.

For those who won prizes, please don't spend/eat/drink it all at once, for those who didn't make it onto the podium... come back next time and try again! I have had many positive comments about the post challenge pub in Leyton, so this may well be the pub of choice for future events.

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

These times now uploaded to Explorer Ticket.

For those who doubled back at Southwark, there has been a 3 minute 34 seconds adjustment to your times (your personal time, as if you started at Southwark). Therefore the times will most cases not match what is posted above (which is your zone 1 event time) which is from the London Bridge 13:00 mass start.
