384 bus route
Now I'm getting really confused!
Looking up bus times on Journey Planner between High Barnet and Cockfosters at ariund 18:30 for a random date of 28/04/2015 I get the following:
18:18 384 arr 18:44 (26 min)
18:30 384 arr 19:04 (34 min)
18:45 384 arr 19:07 (22 min)
As can be seen there is a wide range of times for these buses - supposedly on the same route. In addition if I look up the maps on JP, the full route between NB and CF appears for 18:18 and 18:45 but only part of the route is shown for the 18:30 - there is no mention on JP of having to walk part of the way or to change bus.
(I would have expected - based on the 18:45 timing) for the 18:30 to arrive at CF at 18:52, in time to catch the 18:53 to Earl's Court).
Confused by this, I decided to look it up on TravelineSouthEast instead.
This has suggested:
1829 384 arr 1903
1833 384 to East Barnet (1854), then walk arr 1904.
1845 384 to CF arr 1907 (as per JP)
Any idea why there are the discrepancies between JP and TSE and why some 384s take longer than others?
Many thanks

Re: 384 bus route
the 384 is due at high barnet 18:33 arriving cockfosters 18:58 if u want a piece of advice dont bother using the 384 i could run it faster than the bus most people could! if u coming out of high barnet take any bus that goes towards new barnet even one stop can help if right there that takes out at least 400m if 84/107 take it to new barnet that takes out 1 mile at least.
307 take to the stop before or at cockfosters/bramley rd and run up to cockfosters that be well better than 384.

Yep it takes in a load of sideroads.
Tbh at that time of night there'll be a load of traffic so bus isn't the fastest

Re: 384 bus route
The 18:30 simply doesn't go all the way to Cockfosters. I agree this isn't clear on JP... until you look at the details and open the map.

Re: 384 bus route
Gah! The more I look into it, the messier it gets!
Thought I'd found a 22 minute route from HB to CF but according to JP there was a very tight Tube.bus connection at HB. However traveline says I would have missed it by 1 minute and Tangy's link says I would have missed it by three!
(Services for the other direction appear the same on all three sites!).

Re: 384 bus route
TfL are proposing to reroute the 384 bus so it would take a more direct route from High Barnet to Cockfosters, and also to extend it to Edgware at the other end.

I think it must have been the 384 bus I took on my Labyrinth run - I was not in a hurry!greatkingrat wrote: ↑29 Oct 2018, 18:06 TfL are proposing to reroute the 384 bus so it would take a more direct route from High Barnet to Cockfosters, and also to extend it to Edgware at the other end.

I read Diamond Geezer's post about this change. He mentions that there are petitions organised by people affected by the removal of the wiggly bits. I just thought "Yeah, whatever, but it makes it more direct for Tube Challenge!"

Re: 384 bus route
TfL should ignore the locals and make the 384 route more direct between High Barnet and Cockfosters. In fact withdraw all the stops and make it express X384. I'd use it then rather than the 307 and a run. Direct might knock 5-10mins off the High Barnet-Cockfosters connection time.greatkingrat wrote: ↑29 Oct 2018, 18:06 TfL are proposing to reroute the 384 bus so it would take a more direct route from High Barnet to Cockfosters, and also to extend it to Edgware at the other end.

These changes have now gone ahead so the 384 is now a bit less wiggly and quicker than it was before.greatkingrat wrote: ↑29 Oct 2018, 18:06 TfL are proposing to reroute the 384 bus so it would take a more direct route from High Barnet to Cockfosters, and also to extend it to Edgware at the other end.
