Re: hainault to hornchurch
It would make an interesting 3 way challenge.
1 runs the 8.23miles
2 uses tube via mile end
3 uses tube and LO changing at Leytonstone and Barking.

Re: hainault to hornchurch
In my opinion, the fastest way by public transport only would be:
- Central Line to Newbury Park
- Run to Ley Street (I think this is where you can catch the bus)
- 169 bus to Ilford
- Abellio Greater Anglia to Romford
- 193 bus to Hornchurch
Seriously, though, there are many possible such challenges. I entertained the idea of riding a London Bus from one end to the other, then attempting to get back to the start as fast as possible without using that route, and comparing the two times. I did make a start, but only got up to 4 (this bus takes a very convoluted route from Waterloo to Archway, the return route (Northern line direct, what else?) was over three times faster). Even so, it threw up all kinds of questions (5, 7 and 8 were simple enough, but the fastest way to Willesden Bus Garage for 6, or Newington Green for 21, and I won't even start on the 34's High Barnet to Walthamstow Central. I figured should I ever reach the 464's Tatsfield to New Addington, I was simply going to run it.
