The forum "in decline"?

Post by tubeguru »

Following on from comments made by The Raven in one of this year's Zone 1 threads, I have started a new thread where this can be discussed, if you so wish.

I've moved all the comments pertaining to this conversation from the original thread. The first one can be found directly below this paragraph:

Tubeguru, don't be a troll! If you're taking part, great. If you're not, don't put your name down.

I shudder sometimes when I think that someone so immature, is the site administrator.

We seem to have managed for nine years without anyone being seriously injured, so I must be doing something right. You seem to be the only person who regularly gets unnecessarily offended at things I say on this forum, so maybe it's more a case of you looking for offence where none exists.

And I'm 41 years old. I am sufficiently mature to know that if I took life as seriously as you appear to, it wouldn't be worth living.

Since when did physical age have a 100% correlation with maturity? Maturity is knowing what times to be serious, and when to have fun. Obviously, I wouldn't have said anything if this was the first time you have acted like this.

This forum has been steadily declining for years. Part of the blame rests with you, Tubeguru.

Perhaps you'd like to list your reasons for the forum "declining", and how I've been responsible, and then we can discuss it.

You can start a new thread for it if you like.

May I propose possible reasons to the decline on the forum? Perhaps...

- Problems with the Tube upgrade plan mean people hate the tube more (weekend closures etc)
- The forum's been around for nine years, and in this time, there's only been one really major change to the tube, namely the loss of the East London Line
- Most people only attempt one challenge, it's the Full Network, and people usually attempt it just once
- Wikipedia does not mention the existence of a forum, or the existence of alternative challenges
- The new blood you need is students/the just graduated, but most students/recently-students are more interested in taking selfies
- The original members of the forum are only growing older, and I would assume the march of years makes tube challenging more difficult

That said, I guess some people on the forum are a little off-putting, including:
- Geoff and Andi, the two most famous tube challengers of modern times, used to take digs at each other all the time before Geoff stopped using the forum on getting his second record, which can seem immature. Andi's posts still remain, and one or two of Geoff's posts also remain (those which have not been converted into "trains")
- Rhys B, the youngest member of the forum, shows strong political views which can put people off
- Every few months, GuyBarry gets pernickety over one of the Quizzes and Games, creating a huge argument which is finally settled by Tubeguru either blowing his top or almost blowing his top
- Moley's signature lists himself as "Bad Cop" and Tubeguru as "Good Cop", leading prospective forum members who think Tubeguru is a grumpy old man to believe that Moley, who does not often post, is even worse, so they don't bother signing up

The rest of us have our moments as well!
All London buses: 23 hours 25 minutes (with Adham, David, Josh and Tangy)
Holds some alternative challenge records. Not sure which ones.

I am disappointed I really thought Neil was coming to Z1 day as his name was on the attendance list and my eyesight was not good enough to read the comment in small print, gee whizz and then it all kicked off after that

I think it's a great shame when people have developed grudges against one another. I am not afraid to admit that I have been irritated by some people at different points (as I am certain I have irritated others too) but that is bound to happen when such an odd group of people gather together. I do my best to practise forgiveness and I really think that the whole community would be healthier without such grudges that have developed.

i have no grudge against geoff he is not exactly a friend of mine either personally i havent been posting on here in a while as see it all before and read it all before
in a way grudges are amusing strange how the current world record holder doesnt actually post anything on here anymore apart from trains of course!
